Seattle Star, February 22, 1945

CHARLES FRANKLIN SWEANEY—Friends learned of the death of Charles Franklin Sweaney, 47, 5818 Greenwood avenue, who died February 12 on a transportation troop ship in Alaskan waters. He was a purser on the ship. The body is being sent to Seattle for entombent in Acacia mausoleum.

Born in Vacaville, Cal., Mr. Sweaney came to Seattle in 1920.

Besides his widow, Charlotte, he is survived by his father, W. T. Sweaney, Richmond, Cal., and a sister, Miss Ethel Sweaney, Oakland, Cal.

He was a member of the Maritime Masonic blue lodge and the Islam temple shrine, San Francisco.

Harry Race, Pioneer Druggist, Passes ON

KETCHIKAN — Harry R. Race, pioneer Ketchikan and Juneau druggist and former member of the Territorial Legislature, died yesterday at his home in Coupeville, Whidbey Island, Wash., it was learned here today.

Race, 71, came to Ketchikan prior to 1920 and founded the Race Downtown Drug Store now operated by one of his sons, Robert. Another son, William, is an engineer for the State Division of Mines and Minerals in Juneau.

Race, who left Ketchikan in 1949, is also survived by his widow , Charlotte, of Coupeville, and a daughter Daisy Coyly of Seattle.
