Jerusha Long, wife of Abner Long, died at her home in Egan, Dakota on October 6 and was brought here among her relatives and friends for burial. Her remains arrived at Monroe on Thursday and on Friday she was buried in the cemetery at the Gap Church; the funeral sermon was preached by Rev. Howe of Monroe. A large number of friends and relatives were present and paid their last respects to one of the pioneer settlers of this county. Mrs. Long was born at Madison County, New York on August 1, 1824 and came to Wisconsin with her parents Justus and Maria Sutherland in 1839 and settled in the town of Sylvester, Green County. In 1844 Jerusha married Abner Long but remained a resident of this county until 1879 when they moved to Egan, Moody County, Dakota at which place she died.

Aged Veteran Dies at Egan

Egan, Dec. 8.—(Special to the Argus-Leader.)—Abner Long, a veteran of the civil war, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Stevens, on the third, at the age of 80. He was buried from the M. E. church on Sunday. The services were conducted by Rev. Kerr pastor of the church, and the G. A. R. of which he was a member, with the W. R. C. attended in a body. The burial service of the G. A. R. was held over the grave, in the Silent City, on the hill.
