Ed passed away peacefully 26 September 2001. He was born 4 March 1909 at Toledo, Ohio. He graduated from Woodward High School with Certification in Industrial Arts. After school he worked as a delivery and clean-up boy while training as a Dental Technician. After six years with one of the largest laboratories in the area, he accepted a position as a Sales Representative for JF Jelenko & Co, of NY a large manufacturer of golds and related products. Within a short period working for this company he was promoted to Regional Sales Manager an Clinician for the entire Southeastern United States. In 1940, he resigned from JF Jelenko and entered into a partnership operating the Hallmark Dental Laboratories in Miami. His laboratory was commissioned by the Public Health Services to construct dental appliances for the Officers Training Corp. and other Armed Forces during WWII. This arrangement made is unnecessary for the Armed Services setting up Dental Technical Departments in Florida.
During the year 1948, Ed sold his interest in the Hallmark Laboratory and returned to his old position with JF Jelenko, as Regional Sales Manager and Clinician for the entire Southwestern States.
Several years later, while travelling through Santa Barbara, he purchased the sale of a laboratory which he later renamed Mission Dental Laboratory and obtained numerous franchises in the dental field and serviced the entire Tri-Counties.
In 1968, Ed sold his laboratory and retired, but not for long. With his technical skills and experiences, he opened~ a specialized laboratory working in oral rehabilitation requirements. However, by 1975 this also proved too demanding, so he closed his studio and devoted his time to inventing dental products.
Also during Ed's youth, Ed was a Sharp Shooter having done Competitive Shooting at Camp Perry and becoming a Life Member of the American Rifle Association in 1935. He is a past member of the many Gun Club's in Santa Barbara and helped clear the land for the current range. Ed was a Past International Officer for the Wally Byam Caravan Club—Tri-County Unit. He was also a Past President of the Southern California Dental Laboratory Association and a long-time member of the El Triente y Cinco Dance Club. Especially, Ed was a member of the Elks Lodge 613 since the late 50's having demitted twice and is currently a member of the Santa Barbara Masonic Temple.
He leaves his wife, Gladys of 47 years and one daughter: Judith LeMaire Low and four grandchildren: Angelina, Deanne, Gina and Christopher; he also had two Step-daughters, Dolores Barton and Mariann Troeller.
Traditionally, family services will be held at sea. Ed's gift of gab will be missed. Your remembrance to Hospice would be appreciated.
