Martin-Boyer Nuptials

St. Matthew's Lutheran church was the scene of a pretty wedding Saturday evening at 7 o'clock when Miss Helen Kathryn Boyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Luther Boyer, West Hanover street, became the bride of Pfc. Carroll Maurice Martin, Camp Tyson, Tenn., and son of Mr. and Mrs. Maurice W. Martin, 145 Jackson street, Hanover. The double ring ceremony was performed before the flower banked altar by the pastor, Rev. Dr. Harry Hursh Beidleman, in the presence of a large number of relatives and friends of the couple. The bride approached the altar on the arm of her father and was given in marriage by him.

Preceding the ceremony, J. Herbert Springer, organist of St. Matthew's, presented a 15-minute recital and played the traditional wedding marches as the processional and recessional. Miss Mary Catherine Reck, Hanover, was the maid of honor, and the bridesmaid was Miss Mildred Zumbrum. Little Miss Nancy Zepp and Miss Jean Winters, the latter a cousin of the bridegroom were the flower girls and max Reck was the ring bearer. The bridegroom had for his best man, Seaman, Second Class James Arentz, of the U. S. Naval Training station, Bridgeport, Md., formerly of Hanover.

The bride was attired in a gown of white satin with a sweetheart neckline and train gathered at the waistline. She wore a fingertip veil of net illusion trimmed in scalloped lace and held in place by a coronet of orange blossoms. She carried a Colonial bouquet of white carnations, white rosebuds and white and blue delphiniums. Miss Reck was gowned in pink taffeta with net skirt trimmed in blue lace and carried a Colonial bouquet of mixed flowers. The bridesmaid wore a dress of blue jersey, trimmed in pink and blue lace and a headdress and colonial bouquet corresponding to that of the maid of honor. The flower girls wore similar dresses of blue with matching headdress and carried bouquets similar to the rest of the bridal party.

Following the ceremony a reception was held at the home of the bride's parents for the wedding party and a large group of relatives and friends. The bride is a graduate of the Eichelberger Senior High school, class of 1942, and is employed by the Hanover Manufacturing company. The bridegroom graduated from the same school in 1940 and prior to his induction into the service was an employe of the L. E. Beaudin Shoe company. He will return to his station at Camp Tyson, and the bride will make her home with her parents for the duration

Helen Martin

Helen K. Martin, 83, of Gettysburg, died Friday, May 30, 2008 at the Gettysburg Center Nursing home.

She was born to the late Luther and Nancy (Hershey) Boyer on July 22, 1924 in Hanover.

Mrs. Martin drove a school bus for exceptional children for many years.

Her son survives her, James E. Martin, his wife Virginia L. of Biglerville and four grandchildren, Jason A. Martin of Greenville S.C., Julie Anna Martin-Hayward of Simpsonville, S.C., James A. Martin of Arhus, Denmark and Joy A. Martin of Baltimore, Md.

There will be a memorial service at the convenience of the family with interment at Mount Olivet Cemetery, Hanover.

Memorial contributions in her honor may be made to Jireh Independent Baptist Church, 3068 Biglerville Road, Biglerville, PA 17307.
