C. H. (Brick) Garrigues, 71, whose career as a California newspaperman spanned half a century, died late Friday at his Pacific Palisades home after a lengthy illness.
He had worked as a reporter for several newspapers, including the San Francisco Examiner, Santa Monica Evening Outlook, Venice Vanguard and the Los Angeles Illustrated Daily News.
During the 1930's Mr. Garrigues was an organizer for the Los Angeles County Grand Jury that indicted then Dist. Atty. Buron Fitts on a bribery charge.
He wrote a book, "You're Paying for it: A Guide to Graft," and two pamphlets, "So They Indicted Buron Fitts," and "Why Didn't Somebody Tell Somebody?" ALl were pleas for cleaner government in Los Angeles County.
He leaves his wife, Marguerite; two sons, Charles S. of San Francisco and George L. of Los Angeles; a daughter, Mrs. Patricia Shepherd of Carmichael, and eight grandchildren.
Private funeral services were to be held Monday in Santa Monica.
