A WEDDING trip north with a visit at Burntside lode, Ely, and a motor trip along the North shore and to Canada is being taken by Mr. and Mrs. James J. McLaughlin (Jane Oswald Elwell), whose marriage took place Wednesday evening in the sacristy of the Basilica of St. Mary. The bride is the daughter of Mrs. Alden W. Elwell, 1815 Como avenue S.E., and Mr. McLaughlin the son of Mrs. Charles R. McLaughlin, 1902 Como avenue S.E. The Rev. S. N. Hauer read the service at 8 o'clock.
The bride was given in marriage by her uncle, Edwin S. Elwell. Her wedding gown of white satin was fashioned simply and with it she wore a tulle veil which fell from a small fitted cap with two bands of white satin about it. Gardenias and lilies of the valley former her shower bouquet. Her sister, Miss Evelyn Elwell, who was her maid of honor, wore dark brown crepe and carried yellow roses while Miss Marie Ecklund, bridesmaid, wore turquoise blue crepe with Talisman roses. Crystal clip earrings were their gifts from the bride. Ernest O. Dahlin was Mr. McLaughlin's best mand and Edwin S. Elwell, Jr., and Russell Cates were ushers, Little Carol Anne Bolke, niece of the bridegroom, was flower girl and wore a frock of white mousselline de soi made floor length. She carried a basket of sweetheart roses and swainsonii. John Jacob Beck, organist, played a program of nuptial selections.
A reception for 250 guests took place at the home of Edwin S. Elwell, 5127 Belmont avenue, following the church service. Mrs. Alden W. Elwell, mother of the bride, and the bridegroom's mother assisted in receiving the guests. The former's gown was of shell pink Chantilly lace and her flowers a spray of two orchids. The latter wore peach colored lace with a shoulder bouquety of gardenias. A mound of greens and swainsonii centered with the wedding cake decorated the dining room table. Talisman roses formed the centerpiece for the buffet. For travel the bride has a blue ensemble with a jacket trimmed in white.

Reception for 250 Guests Held at Home of the Bride's Uncle Following Ceremony — Couple Leaves on Motor Trip North
A RECEPTION FOR 250 GUESTS AT THE HOME OF MR. Edwin S. Elwell, 5127 Belmon avenue, followed the marriage of Miss Jane Oswald Elwell, daughter of Mrs. Alden W. Elwell, 1815 Como avenue southeast, and Mr. James J. McLaughlin, son of Mrs. Charles R. McLaughlin, 1902 Como avenue southeast. The ceremony was quietly solemnized Wednesday evening in the sacristy of the Basilica of St. Mary, with the Rev. S. N. Hauer reading the service at 8 o'clock.
Mr. Edwin S. Elwell gave his niece in marriage and they were met at the altar by Mr. McLaughlin and his best man, Mr. Ernest O. Dahlin. With her simple gown of white satin the bride wore a tulle veil distinguished by a small fitted cap with two bands of white satin about it. She carried a shower bouquet of gardenias and lilies of the valley.
Dark brown crepe fashioned the gown of Miss Evelyn Elwell, who was her sister's maid of honor, while Miss Marie Ecklund, the bridesmaid, wore turquoise blue crepe. The gowns were made alike with slight trains and capes and both young women wore wide-brimmed leghorn hats. Miss Elwell carried yellow roses and Miss Ecklund's flowers were talisman roses. They wore crystal clip earring as their gifts from the bride.
As flower girl, little Carol Ann Bolke, niece of the bridegroom, wore a floor-length frock of white mousseline de soie with a white satin bow in her hair and carried a basket of sweetheart roses and swainsonii. Messrs. Edwin S. Elwell, Jr., and Russell Cates served as ushers. The wedding marches were played by Mr. John Jacob Beck, the church organist.
At the reception a program was played by a Symphony trio made up of a harpist, violinist and cellos. Mrs. Alden Elwell, who assisted in receiving, was gowned in shell pink Chantilly lace and had two orchids at her shoulder. The bridegroom's mother wore a gown of peach-colored lace and had a shoulder bouquet of gardenias. Talisman roses decorated the buffet in the dining room and the candle-lighted table centered with the wedding cake in a mound of greens and swainsonii.
Mr. McLaughlin and his bride left on a motor trip north and will stop at Burntside lodge, Ely, Minn., en route to the north shore and Canada. For going away the bride wore a blue ensemble with a jacket trimmed with a band of white.
Mrs. A. G. Bean of Washington, D. C., grandmother of the bride, was an out-of-town guest at the ceremony. WIth the bride's other grandmother, Mrs. James T. Elwell, she was entertained in a party of 14 at the bridal dinner given Monday evening at the Minneapolis Automobile club. Among the pre-nuptial affairs for the bride was a lingerie shower given by the Misses Phyllis Stearns and Carroll Carpenter, showers given by the Misses Miriam Brown and Jane Bennett and by the Misses Lorraine and Bernice Krause, a kitchen shower given at the home of Mrs. E. R. Simmens following a luncheon for 14 at Dayton's tearooms, an evening party at which Miss Eileen Donohue was hostess, a linen shower given by Miss Marie Ecklund, a dinner for 12 by Mrs. Charles Dexter, a miscellaneous shower for 14 given by Miss Olga Eckstrom at the Y.W.C.A. solarium, a party for 18 guests given by the Misses Arlene and Eunice Johnson, and an evening tea for 24 guests Sunday evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. T. Bertsch.
