Parents Tell Troth Of Miss Parrish

Mr. and Mrs. G. H. Parrish, 314 Twelfth East street, announce the betrothal and approaching marriage of their daughter, Miss Betsy Bob Parrish, to George Wallace Peck, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold L. Peck, 762 Emerson avenue.

The couple will be married the morning of September 28 in a simple ceremony at the home of the bride's parents. After the ceremony a breakfast will be given for the couple at the Salt Lake Country club. Only members of the families will be present.

The bride-elect is a graduate of Rowland Hall and the University of Utah where she was affiliated with the Pi Beta Phi sorority. Her fiance attended Westminster college and was graduated from Menlo Junior college at Menlo, Cal., and the University of Utah. He is a member of the Beta Theta Pi fraternity.

Death Takes Insurance Firm Chief

HOLLADAY — George Wallace Peck, 51, 2665 Kentucky Ave., president of the George W. Peck Co., died of natural causes Friday at his residence.

Mr. Peck was affiliated with the Fidelity and Casualty Company of San Francisco. He graduated from Menlo Park College and the Univeristy of Utah where he was a member of Beta Theta Pi.

He was a veteran of World War II, and was a member of Argenta Lodge No. 1 AF&AM, El Kalah Temple Shrine, Ambassador Athletic Club and University Club, all of Salt Lake City.

He joined the George W. Peck Co. in 1939, and had served as present of the insurance firm for the past 10 years.

A son of Harold L. and Ursel E. Edwards Peck, Mr. Peck was born April 19, 1916 in Salt Lake City. On Sept. 28, 1940 he married Betsy Parrish in Salt Lake City.

Surviving are his widow; a son, George W. Peck III, New York City; his father, Salt Lake City; and a sister, Mrs. Martin L. (Ursel) Woods, Mercer Island, Wash.

Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 1 p.m., at 372 E. 100 South. Family suggests contribution to the Shriners Children's Hopsital. Cremation will take place at the Shrine of Memories Mausoleum.

TIGARD, Oregon—James G. Berry, Sr., age 77, died June 27, 1993 of cancer and heart failure in Hillsboro, Oregon.

Born December 11, 1915 in San Francisco, California. He graduated from the University of Utah. Married Betsy Parrish. He was a resident of Salt Lake for 25 years from 1925-1940. He has lived in the Portland, Oregon area for 20 years. A veteran of United States Army, he served as a Lt. Colonel during World War II.

Member of Cedar Hills Kiwanis and Beaverton Elks. Member of St. Stephens Episcopal Church. Past president of the Public Affairs Forum in Beaverton. Served on the vestry and as a senior warden of St. Stephens. He was an engineer with Westinghouse Elevator Co. retiring in 1938.

Survived by wife, Betsy Berry, Tigard, Oregon; son, James G. Berry, Jr. West Yellowstone, Montana; daughter, Marilyn Koste, Fort Myers, Fla.; son, George W. Peck, East Worcester, N.Y.; daughter, Katherine Montgomery, Golden, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; two great-grandsons.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., July 1, 1993, at St. Stephens Episcopal Church, under the direction of Finley Sunset Hills Mortuary, Portland, Oregon. Betsy P. Berry

Betsy Peck Berry, nee Betsy Bob Parrish, was born March 6, 1918. She died Dec. 31, 2018. She was predeceased by her mother, Corrinna Harte Parrish; her father, George Hawkins Parrish; and her two sisters, Marjorie Smith and Dorothy Jackson.

Betsy grew up in Salt Lake City, Utah, graduating from the Rowland Hall School for Girls, in Salt Lake and the University of Utah, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Art.

She married George Wallace "Wally" Peck Sept. 28, 1940. Their only child, George Wallace Peck III was born March 10, 1943. Betsy and Wally lived in Salt Lake and spent much of their spare time fishing and hunting in Utah and Wyoming. Wally died in January of 1968.

In 1974, Betsy married her old friend James Gibson Berry. Jim's work took the couple to Portland, where Betsy became an accomplished golfer. In addition to playing golf with the King City Beaverton Belles, she also had golf memberships at Progress Downs in Portland and the Summerfield Golf Course in Tigard. Betsy was a member of the Portland Assistance League, The Century Club for Women, Master Gardeners and the Broadmoore Women's Club. She was an avid bridge player and was a member of several bridge clubs. With her good friend, Margo Bennett, she partnered to play for the benefit of the Boys and Girls Aid Society.

When her husband, James Berry, died in June 1993, Betsy continued to live in their house in Summerfield and, years later, met her good friend and companion, Richard Thurin. They often traveled to Hawaii and to his second home on the Columbia River.

In 2015 she broke her hip. After her recovery she sold her home on the Summerfield Golf Course and took up residence at the Summerfield Estates in Tigard. After a year there, she took an apartment at the new Bonaventure Retirement Home on S.W. Hall Boulevard in Tigard.

Surviving Betsy are her son, George and his wife, Patricia; her grandchildren, Sarah (Steve), Matthew and Jessica; and her great-grandchild, Dani Rose. Also surviving Betsy are her stepchildren, Lindy, Marilyn (Byron) and Katherine; her nieces and nephews, Sidney, Brad, Terry, Peter, Bob and Pamela. A stepson, James Berry; a niece, Corrinna Aragon; and a nephew, William Groen, predeceased Betsy.

At last count Betsy had 11 grand and step-grandchildren and 16 great-grand and step-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service for Betsy will be held in Salt Lake City in the summer.
