The marriage of Miss Marian Josephine Newell of Marshall to Lieutenant William Norris Rider of Kansas City took place at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Newman Newell, of Marshall at 6:30 o'clock Thursday evening. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. Frank L. Smith of Kansas City. The bride's attendants were: Mrs. James Pirie, and Mrs. James Plunkett, who were matrons of honor; and Misses Marjorie Sparks, Sarah Murell and Frances Brown, bridesmaids. The flower girls were Miss Mary Elizabeth McRoberts and Miss Mildred Newell, cousins of the bride. The ringbearer was little Miss Marian Sparks, another cousin of the bride.

The bride wore a gown of white satin and Duchess lace with a veil and carried a shower bouquet of bride's roses and valley lilies. The bridesmaids and matrons of honor wore white organdy dresses and carried red roses tied with blue tulle carrying out the color scheme of red, white and blue.

The Newell home was decorated with roses, ferns and potted plants. The lawn was decorated with flowers, flags and Japanese lanterns.

After the ceremony a reception was held and a wedding supper was served which was attended by about 130 guests.

Lieutenant and Mrs. Rider came to Columbia last night and will spend the week-end. Lieutenant Rider will leave Monday night for Carruthers Field, at Fort Worth, Tex., to receive orders and will be sent to another camp. Mrs. Rider will visit relatives in Kansas City until his return and will go with him to whatever camp he is sent.

Mrs. Rider was a junior in the College of Arts and Science last year and a member of the Pi Beta Phi sorority. She was elected one of the six Savitar queens last year. Lieutenant Rider was graduated from the College of Agriculture. He is a member of the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity. Since his graduation he has been in the aviation corps and has been stationed at Carruthers Field.
