Mr. Alfred M. Rock and Miss Mamie E. Snoddy, were married on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at 1 o'clock p. m., at the residence of the bride's parents by Rev. D. L. Lander of the Presbyterian church.
The announcement of this marriage was something of a surprise to the community. Only members of the family and a half dozen invited guests were present. Miss Mabel Palmer presided at the organ and played a jovial wedding march as the bridal party posted through the hall and entered the parlor; then the pathetic strains of "Annie Laurie" wafted softly through the house, while the vows were spoken at the altar.
The bride was very becomingly dressed in a travelling suit of dark blue serge, with trimmings of white silk and applique. THe groom was dressed in conventional black.
The attendants were Mr. Dan Yancey and Miss Birchie Smith of Dunksburg, Mo.
The bride is one of Saline county's most estimable young ladies, attractive, yet modest and unassuming. "Her price is far above rubies, the heart of her husband may safely trust in her; she will do him good and not evil all the days of her life."
The groom, formerly a resident of this county, but now of Memphis, Tenn., is a young man of fine personal appearance, good health, habits and morals and every way worthy of the bride he has won. After the ceremony, the young couple started at once to Mt. Leonard, to take the train for Kansas City. They will be at home after Jan. 27th, at 33 Indian Ave., Memphis, Tenn. The best wishes of a host of friends follow them.

The large gathering of friends present at the funeral of Mrs. A. M. Rock at the home September 1st attested the esteem in which she and her husband are held in the county. Her pastor, the Rev. Lennox Crockett, spoke a comforting message from the text, "Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints."
Mrs. Lennox Crockett sang "Nearer My God to Thee," and a mixed quartet composed of Miss Mary Ann Wilson, Mrs. Ralph Simpson, Mr. Merlin Sievers and Mrs. Lewis Schultz sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages."
The flower bearers stood at either side of the gate until the casket was borne from the church. They were Mrs. Maurice Yancey, Mrs. Irwin Sailor, Mrs. James Kiser, Mrs. Home Wilson, Mrs. F. L. Dyer and Miss Bettie Douglas.
The pall bearers were James Kiser, Ernest Dyer, Raymond Maurice Yancey, Leland Yancey, and Flavel Yancey.
Maye Snoddy Rock, a daughter of William Addison and Ann Power Snoddy, was born July 15th, 1869, at the Snoddy homestead southeast of Malta Bend. She passed to her eternal home at 10 a. m., August 31st, 1943. She was a student at the Elizabeth Aull Seminary at Lexington. She was converted in early life at the Saline Church under the preaching of the Rev. Joshua Barbee. Her many kindnesses in word and deed made hers an active Christian influence in the Marshall and Saline Presbyterian churches.
Mayme Snoddy became the wife of Alfred M. Rock January 24th, 1900. They first made their home in Memphis, Tennessee, and later in Thayer, Missouri. A number of years ago they returned to Saline County which has since been their home.
Mrs. Rock lavished her affection on those about her and was richly loved in return. Her cordial hospitality and rare homemaking qualities brought a reward of many friends. The Eastern Star and Union Club valued her as a member. One of her joys was caring for the flower garden which, with her husband's helpful co-operation, made a beauty spot.
On July 18th she was severely stricken and was unable to leave her bed from that time until the end. She always had a smile for the rosebuds brought to her bedside. She was very appreciative of the cheering messages of friends and the tender care of her husband and sister. Those she leaves to mourn her passing are her husband; one sister, Miss Josephine Snoddy; two nieces, Mrs. Claud Mikels and Mrs. Willard Page of Marshall; and one nephew, W. A. Snoddy of Miami.
