Mr. A. M. Rock of Malta Bend, phone Mrs. Helen and Miss Maurice Irvine of 231 Eastwood street on Friday that he had received a message from Fort Worth, Tex., telling him of the death of his brother, Edward Rock, which occurred a short time before the message was sent. The deceased who was born and reared in Saline, his parents having been prominent pioneer citizens of the county had been in failing health for about three months, he was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Rock who live at San Antonio, Tex., and the surviving brothers and sisters are Misses Sallie and Ruby Rock, Messrs. Jesse and Claud Rock, also of San Antonio and Mrs. Ora Rock Daniels and Mr. Frank Rock of Catula Tex., and Mr. A. M. Rock of Malta Bend, already mentioned. The Rock family moved to Catula, Tex., a good many years ago and the deceased was married there twenty-seven years ago, the sixth of January to Miss Bettie Shaw, the daughter of the late William and Ophelia, two pioneers of Saline, and she and two children survive the husband and father. The deceased and his family were visitors in Saline and Marshall about five or six years ago and spent some time with their relative, the late, Mrs. R. R. Irvine and family at their home on South Odell. THe mother of Mr. Edward Rock was Miss Sarah Irvine, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Philander Irvine who were early pioneer citizens of the Mt. Carmel neighborhood so the life just ended which was a good helpful one and a blessing to the communities in which he lived was closely identified with Saline and its interests for a great many years and his passing will bring sadness to many who knew him in his early manhood. He was about fifty years old and his mother, Mrs. Sarah Irvine Rock, was a sister of the late, William Irvine, husband of Mrs. Helen Irvine of this city. So a number of hearts and households in Marshall and Saline are touched by the death of Mr. Edward Rock.
No funeral arrangements had been made when the message was sent.
