Beryl Rutledge and Jesse Shelton Rock

JESSE SHELTON ROCK, son of SARAH MARTHA IRVINE and WILLIAM EDWARD ROCK, was born August 13, 1887 in Marshall, Saline, Missouri,⁸ and died April 21, 1961 in Cotulla, La Salle, Texas.¹⁴⁸⁶ He is buried in Cotulla Cemetery, La Salle County, Texas.⁴⁵⁶

He married BERYL RUTLEDGE in 1927 in Bexar County, Texas. She was born November 23, 1899 in Victoria, Victoria, Texas,⁴⁵³² and died January 13, 1993 in Abilene, Taylor, Texas.¹¹²²⁵ She is buried in Cotulla Cemetery, La Salle County, Texas.⁴⁵⁶

Beryl Rutledge Rock

Services for Beryl Rutledge Rock, 93, of Abilene, formerly of Cotulla, will be at 10 a.m. today at the First Baptist Church in Cotulla with the Rev. Bill Sleuter officiating.

Burial will be in Cotulla Cemetery, directed by North's Funeral Home, 242 Orange.

She died Wednesday in Abilene where she ha moved to be near her brother.

Mrs. Rock was born in Victoria and soon moved with her parents to San Antonio. She was a graduate of old Main Avenue High School and of the University of Texas where she received both a bachelor of arts and master's degree.

She taught school for 48 years, seven of which were in San Antonio and 39 of those as principal of Amanda Burks Elementary School.

After her marriage, she and her husband, Jesse Shelton Rock, who preceded her in death, moved to Cotulla in 1927. She continued to live there until losing her eyesight in 1978 at which time she entered a nursing home in San Antonio.

Mrs. Rock taught Bible and exercise classes to the residents of the nursing home until recently.

Survivors include her brother, Glenn Rutledge of Abilene; and a number of nieces and nephews.
