Betty Gene Gatliff-Wilkins died on May 6, 2009, in Klamath Falls at the age of 86 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.

A service of tribute and love will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at 10:30 a.m. at Eternal Hills Chapel.

Betty was born May 12, 1922 in Wapato, Wash., the first of three children born to Albert and Fannie (Williams) Ryckman. She grew up in the Wapato area, where she graduated from high school in 1939.

After graduation, she attended and graduated from San Diego Beauty College.

In 1954, she bought a beauty shop in Tulelake, Calif., which she owned and operated until retiring in the early 1990s. In addition, she held her beautician's license for 50 years.

After her first marriage to Paul Prenger ended, she married Hobart "Hodie" Gatliff on Dec. 25, 1954. He preceded her in death in 1985. On April 22, 1989, she married Andy Wilkins in Tulelake. He preceded her in death in 2008.

Betty was a member of the Tulelake Community Presbyterian Church, where she served as a deacon. She was also a member of the Tulelake Business and Professional Women's Club, serving as president two times, and the Tulelake Area Service Club.

She enjoyed cooking, traveling to Canada and Mexico and playing cards, especially pinochle. Betty also enjoyed camping, including fishing on the Pitt River and Shasta Lake and deer hunting trips in the Medicine Lake area.

She is survived by her children Beth (Carleton) Western of Klamath Falls, Ryck Prenger of Topeka, Ind., Rich and Kim Gatliff of Merrill, Ore.; stepchildren Andrew Wilkins Jr. of Ohio, John Wilkins of Tennessee; brother and sister-in-law Norman and Betty Lou Ryckman of Tulelake; sister and brother-in-law Carolyn and Gene Nelson of Paradise, Calif.; 17 grandchildren, including Greg and Wendi Carleton of Merrill, Steve Carleton, Kristine and Jerry Golden, and Bobbie and Bryan Hankins of Klamath Falls, Ronnie Carleton of Eugene, Ore., Jamie and Miles Gatliff of Merrill, Paul and Kelsey Prenger and Matt Prenger of Portland, Scott Roberts of San Diego, Calif., Lonnie Gatliff of Washington, and Brandy Gatliff of Dayton, Nev.; 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
