Harrisonville Man Killed in Head-On Crash on U. S. 71

KANSAS CITY (AP)—Jesse W. Schindler, 60-year-old operator of a filling station in Harrisonville, Mo., was killed Wednesday night when two cars collided head-on at the south edge of Kansas City.

The accident was just north of a newly opened section of dual highway on U.S. 71, and the Missouri Highway Patrol said the shift from dual highway to two-land road may have confused Herbert Rooks, 38, of Grandview. He was driving northbound in a southbound lane.

Schindler was in a southbound car driven by Robert C. Worthley, 46-year-old superintendent of Harrisonville's water and sewer department.

Rooks, Mrs. Rooks, and Mrs. Worthley were critically injured. Also taken to hospitals were Worthley, Mrs. Schindler, four Rooks children and 19-year-old James Wayne Foster of Kansas City, riding with Rook.
