Charles F. Shedd, jr., register of the United States Land office and Miss Bertha Gifford daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Gifford of 1727 South Fifteenth street were married at Eaton, Ohio, Monday at 7:30 p. m. Mr. Shedd is familiarly known in the city as "Chick" Shedd, one of the football stars of the football team of 1902. He received an injury during the game with the Haskell Indians that year and was for several years an invalid. Mr. and Mrs. Shedd went from Ohio to Florida where they will spend about thirty days, Mr. Shedd having secured a leave of absence from the land office for that time. They have not decided whether or not they will make their home in Lincoln. Mr. Shedd tendered his resignation as register of the land office but the department at Washington would not accept it. Mr. Gifford, father of the bride, is receiver of the land office.

LINCOLN, Neb., Dec. 10.—A surgical operation for the relief of Charles Shedd, left end on the Nebraska university football eleven, was performed at a local hospital last evening.
Shedd was injured in the game against the Haskell Indians Nov. 1, sustaining a bruise in the groin which has since kept him on a bed of pain. The surgeons decided yesterday that an abscess had developed. The diagnosis was correct, but the result of the operation is in doubt from the fear that it may be tubercular, in which event Shedd's chances are slim.
Anthropometrical measurements taken by the special doctor at the university show that Shedd was the most perfectly developed individual in the school. His weight was 175 pounds, but he has now wasted away until he weights less than 100. The injured player was permitted to witness the Thanksgiving game between Nebraska and Northwestern, viewing it from the side lines swathed in heavy blankets and resting in an invalid's char.
After the game he had a relapse and his physicians have had misgivings concerning his case for several days.

Charles F. Shedd, better known to his many friends as "Chick" Shedd, prominent in football circles in both the state university and Lincoln high school, died early this morning at Kenwood, Florida, according to word received in Lincoln today. He died of malarial fever.
Shedd was registrar in the United States land office in Lincoln for a number of years. He was married last December to Bertha Gifford. Shedd was a well known football star, playing left end on the team which licked Minnesota in 1902, and his work upon the gridiron field made him many friends, who were shocked to hear of his demise. His football career was ended in 1902, when he was injured in a game between Nebraska and the Haskell Indians.
The body will be brought to Lincoln. Funeral arrangements will be made later.
