Of interest to the Peninsula was the wedding which took place in Fairfield, Va., Wednesday morning at the home of the bride, "Mount Pleasant," when Miss Katherine Houston, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Houston became the bride of George Sheild, son of Dr. and Mrs. Frank Sheild, of Hampton. The ceremony was performed in the presence of the immediate family and few intimate friends by the Rev. Hannah, pastor of the Presbyterian Church.
The bride who was given in marriage by her father, wore a gown of white crepe made with princess lines and her flowers were an arm bouquet of white roses.
She had as her matron-of-honor and only attendant, Mrs. Calvin Cabell Tennis, who was attired in coral crepe made with princess liens and carried an arm bouquet of Talisman roses.
Mr. Sheild had as his best man Calvin Tennis.
After a wedding trip to Bermuda, Mr. and Mrs. Sheild will make their home with the groom's parents on Newport News Avenue.
Mrs. Sheild is a graduate of Agnes Scott School in Georgia and was at one time with the faculty of Hampton High School.
Mr. Sheild is a graduate of Virginia Military Institute of the class of '28 and is now connected with the Newport News Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company.

HARRISONBURG — George Henry Sheild, 85, a former resident of Hampton, died Friday, Aug. 2, at Sunnyside Retirement Community.
Mr. Sheild was employed as an electrical engineer at Newport News Shipbuilding from 1928 until his retirement in 1971.
A native of Hampton, he lived most of his life in the Hampton area before moving to Sunnyside in 1984. He was a 1928 graduate of Virginia Military Institute.
Mr. Sheild was a member of First Presbyterian Church, Hampton, where he served as an elder. He was also a charter member of Hampton Roads German Club.
Survivors include his wife, Katherine Warren Houston; a daughter, Ann S. Bishop of Greenwood, S.C.; a son, Dr. Francis W. Sheild of Hampton; and five grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Chapel at Sunnyside by Dr. James E. Guthrie, Dr. Marion Simmons and Dr. John Lown. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery, Hampton, at a later date.
