John Reid Shumway, 85, of Gladstone, MO, passed away May 20, 2003 at the Woodbine Care Center in Gladstone, MO. A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 24, 2003, at the Christ the King Catholic Church in Kansas City, KS. Visitation will be from 9-10 a.m. Saturday at the church.
Mr. Shumway was bron on October 29, 1917, in Kansas City, KS. to Jay and Anna Shumway. John retired from the Wabash Railroad and ran his own traffic consulting business in St. Joseph, MO. He also taught Interstate Commerce Law at the UMKC School of Law. He had served as a Deputy Sheriff in Taney Co., MO, was the President of the Kansas City Traffic Club, past Master of the Forsythe Lodge, Standing member of the St. Joseph Scottish Rite and was a published writer of poetry and short stories. He was preceded in death by his wife of 32 years, Tessie S. Hicks. He is survived by one daughter, Martha Harriet Maher; one brother, Earl Miller; one sister, Ellen; five grandchildren, Maura, John, Fay, Nellie and Maggie; and 18 great-grandchildren.

DAVENPORT — Gertrude Gibson Shumway, 85, of Davenport, passed away on Sunday, August 3, 2003, at Grandview Terrace, Davenport.
Funeral services are pending at Christ the King Catholic Church Kansas City with burial to follow at Resurrection Cemetery lenexa, Kan. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society or the Red Cross. Runge Mortuary and Crematory, Davenport, is in charge of arrangements.
Gertrude Long was born on April 20, 1918, in Kansas City, Kan., the daughter of Howard and Helen E. (Stanley) Long.
In Gertrude's younger years, she was a newspaper reporter; later worked as an office manager at Wilson and Earnhart Architectural; Christenson Conway and Higgins Manufacturing, and retiring in 1983 from Rainbow Mental Health Center.
She was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Davenport, the Professional Business Women's Association, Royal Neighbor's of t America and volunteered for the American Red Cross.
Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Marty Harriet and Frank Maher, Kansas City, Mo.; five grandchildren, Maura, John, Faye, Nellie and Margaret; 17 great-grandchildren; and two great-godchildren, Kim Warren and Angie McEnanay.
