Mildred N. Brown

YORK Mildred N. Brown, 98, passed away Friday October 16, 2009, at Rest Haven - York. She was the wife of the late Lewis Brown and the late M. Richard Jacobs. Mildred (Millie) was born in York, on September 18, 1911, a daughter of the late Eugene and Eva M. (Geiselman) Strayer. She was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church. After graduating from William Penn Senior High School, she attended Elizabethtown College for Piano Seminars and became a highly successful piano teacher for over 60 years. Always active in the community, Millie was a member of the Woman's Club of York, the York Symphony, and the York County Heritage Trust, among other organizations. Her greatest loves, next to her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, were her countless friends, music, and bridge. Millie is survived by a son, Stephen Jacobs of New Oxford; three grandchildren, Christopher Jacobs, Steve Jacobs, and Stacy Carlson; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Craig Jacobs, who died in 1996. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Etzweiler Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 1111 E. Market St., York, with the Rev. Paul Stambach officiating. Burial will be in Mount Rose Cemetery. A visitation will be on Thursday from 1:30 to 2 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Compassionate Care Hospice, 2449 S. Queen St., York, PA 17402.
