Pontiac, June 21.—(Special) — Chauncey Street, highway commissioner of Pontiac township, has only recently discovered the whereabouts of his brother, William Street, of whom he has heard nothing in thirty years. The dsicovery of his whereabouts came in a very peculiar manner.
Burgess Street, a son of Chauncey Street, met a couple of strangers near the Wabash station recently with whom he engaged in conversation. The two men stated that they had spent the winter in California, being engated as fruit packers and being unable to secure work there after the packing season had closed were then making their way east in search of work. They inquired the name of the young man during their conversation. When they learned that it was Street, one of them said that they were quite well acquainted with a man by the name of Street, a policeman at San Fernando, Cal., from the fact that he had arrested them last winter. Young Street spoke up then, stating that he had an uncle located in San Fernando who was a policeman and inquired of the stranger his first name. They replied that it was Jake which was the first name of the young man's uncle.
The conversation developed the further fact that one of the strangers knew a man at Santa Anna., Cal., by the name of William Street. Young Street told them that he had an uncle by the name of William Street of whom nothing had been heard in thirty tyears. The strangesr were able to give young Street the name of a milling concern where William Street was employed.
When the young man returned home that evening he told his father of the conversation. His father immediately wrote to his brother Jake, the policeman at San Fernando, telling him of the William Street at Santa Anna. When the letter reached Jake Street, he made a trip to Santa Anna, which is about 60 miles from San Fernando, and looked up William Street. They were soon able to establish their relations as brothers, although they had not seen one another for thirty years and the facts were communicated to Mr. Street. here.
Chauncey Street stated this morning that about thirty years ago his brother William wrote, stating that he was then leaving for Alaska to prospect for gold, that was the last any of the brothers had ever heard from him. He also stated that there was being held in the state of Missouri a parcel of land willed to his brother William from his parents' estate and that an effort would now be made to secure this for him.
