JOSEPH L. SUITS was born November 11, 1846 in Guilford County, North Carolina,⁴⁹³¹ and died August 24, 1929 in Ogden, Henry, Indiana.⁴⁹³¹

He married MARY JANE SULLIVAN on June 7, 1867 in Guilford, North Carolina.²³³ She was born January 1, 1851 in North Carolina,⁴⁹³¹ and died November 16, 1915 in Knightstown, Henry, Indiana.⁴⁹³¹ She is buried in Glen Cove Cemetery, Knightstown, Henry, Indiana.^{217, 220, 4931}

Mrs. Mary J. Suits, aged sixty-four years, whose home was at Ogden, died at the home of her son, George Suits, North Franklin street, Tuesday evening at 7:30 o'clock, of hardening of the arteries following an illness of three months. Her husband, Joseph Suits, and son, George Suits, survive. The funeral will be held at Ogden Christian church, where she held her membership, on Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. Interment at Glencove cemetery.

OBITUARY

The long watches of the night are over and she is gone. Gone from her earthy home, gone from the society of those she loved, gone to live with the dear ones over yonder, and with the angels.

Mary Jane Sullivan was born in Guildford county, N. C., in 1851, and passed to the great beyond, November 16, 1915, at the home of her son in Knightstown, aged 64 years, 11 months and 11 days. She was united in marriage to J. L. Suits, June 9, 1866 and to this union were born two children: George W. and Mary Elizabeth. The latter preceded her to the better land Dec. 14, 1906 and it was with difficulty that she rallied from the sadness of the great loss of her daughter's departure. She leaves a husband, one son and four brothers and two sisters to mourn the death of their loved one.

She united with the M. E. church when about twenty-eight years of age. Some years later she became a member of the Christian church at Dunrieth, that church going down, she then identified herself with the New Light, or Christian church, at Odgen, and was faithful till death called her. Mary Suite, as she was familiarly known was a lovely christian character and was always faithful to the house of worship as long as her health permitted. Some years ago she was superintendent and a teacher in the Odgen M. E. Sunday School and in later years she served in the same manner in the Christian church to which she was most loyally devoted. As a teacher and a leader, her counsel will still be felt among those who knew her best and loved her most. Her willing spirit was always ready to give of her means to the support of the gospel and no sacrifice was too great for her to make for the cause that she loved and most willingly was a help to those in need. Her unflinching faith in the word of God never wavered and her motto was "Not Slothful in business but fervent in spirit serving the Lord."
