Sutherland, Howard B. Jr.
DARLINGTON - Howard B. Sutherland, Jr., age 84, of Darlington, passed away on Friday, Aug. 24, 2007, at Memorial Hospital of Lafayette County in Darlington following a short illness. He was born on Dec. 14, 2922, in Albany, to Howard B. and Cora W. (Smith) Sutherlan, Sr. Howard was united in marriage to Rachel K. Hawkinson on Oct. 8, 1944, in South Wayne. He was a cheese maker in the Argyle and Brodhead areas. Howard later lived and farmed in the Gratiot and Belmont areas. In 1986, he retired, moving into Darlington where he has resided since. Howard was a past member of Gratiot Methodist Church. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his family and friends. Howard is survived by his daughter, Susan (Richard) Baraga of Madison; his son, David (Marjean) Sutherland of Darlington; two grandchildren, Matt and Abbey Sutherland of Madison; and his two sisters, Gladys McGlynn of Cuba City and Florence Zimmerman of Waunakee. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rachel on Jan. 25, 1995; a brother, Kenneth Zimmerman; and three sisters, Vesta Gille, Vivian Moeller and Shirley Eckerman. Memorial services will be held on Sunday, Aug. 26, 2007, at 4 p.m. at Immanuel United Church of Christ, Darlington, with the Rev. Kristofer K. Avise-Rouse officiating. Burial will be at a later date at Gratiot M.E. Cemetery. A visitation will also be held on Sunday at Immanuel United Church of Christ from 2 p.m. until time of services. A memorial fund has been established in Howard's name.
