Four American missionaries in China, including Miss Katherine Thompson of this city, who had been isolate by warfare since mid-November, sent word of their safety to the American Consulate in Shanghai today, according to an Associated Press dispatch.
Miss Thompson, whose parents, Mr. and Mrs. Samuel A. Thompson, live at 5236 Illinois avenue N.W., is a missionary from the Central Presbyterian Church, Fifteenth and Irving streets N.W.
The message from Miss Thompson and the other three—Mr. and Mrs. A. Allison of New Orleans and Miss M. Wilcoxof Elberton, Ga.—said they had taken refuge in Chinese villages near Kiangyin, Yangtze River port between Nanking and the sea. They were the last of the many American missionaries for whom apprehension had been felt.
Miss Thompson's father said today he had received a letter from his daughter under date of November 23, saying she had left Kiangyin the day before and had traveled up the Yangtze by houseboat to Tsiao Tien, a small village about 12 miles away.
Miss Thompson has been a missionary 12 years. Her last visit here was in 1935.
