Mr. and Mrs. Dewitt R. Wagner celebrated the fortieth anniversary of their marriage last evening at their home on Chicago avenue, by entertaining a family party at dinner. Covers were laid for twenty and the decorations were in pink. American Beauty roses furnished the centrepiece and the cloth was strewn with smilax. Mr. and Mrs. Wagner were married in Detroit, Mich., and came to Minneapolis in 1867. They have lived in their home on Chicago avenue for thirty-one years and are among the well-known pioneers of the city.

DEWITT R. WAGNER DEAD

Pioneer Business Man Prominent on 'Change Passes Away.

DeWitt R. Wagner died at 4 p.m. yesterday at the family home, 1628 Chicago avenue, after a lingreing illness. Mr. Wagner was one of the pioneer business men of Minneapolis. He was the founder of the grocery commission firm of D. R. Wagner & Co., and later was the head of the grain commission firm of the same name, one of the leading firms on the Chamber of Commerce. He was born at Fort Plain, N. Y., in 1833, and spent his early days in New York City. From New York he moved to Detroit, Mich., and came to Minneapolis in 1867. The first business home of Mr. Wagner was in the present Wagner block, at Hennepin and Washington avenues. During his residence in Minneapolis Mr. Wagner was affiliated with the Presbyterian church; he filled the office of deacon of Westminster Presbyterian church for twenty-five years, and was the oldest deacon of the church.

Mr. Wagner is survived by a widow, Mrs. Mary S. Wagner; a daughter, Mrs. J. H. Lyle, and four sons, Alfred J. Wagner, Charles D. Wagner, Roy H. Wagner and Edward S. Wagner, all of Minneapolis. Rev. J. E. Bushnell will conduct the funeral service at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at the family home, 1628 Chicago avenue. The interment will be at Lakewood cemetery.
