John H. Young is coming to the aid of "farsighted women"
The Daytonian has developed a compact with a prescription lens in place of the conventional makeup mirror.
He expects to have the unit on the market in four weeks, selling it through optometrists, optical stores, department stores, etc.
Initially, he will be offering a single design with a choice of four different lens prescriptions.
They will sell for $12. 95.
Young, president of Supreme Optical Co., 2853 Springboro Rd., where he grinds prescription lenses, plans for farm out the work on the compacts.
However, he will add a couple of extra employes at his shop to handle the assembling of the merchandise.
Later, as the business grows — and if he thinks the potential is big — he will add different designs and take on full production.
To introduce the new venture, Young established Magnavue, Inc., with himself as president and treasurer; his wife, Eleanor J., as vice president, and his attorney, Paul H. Granzow, as secretary.
Young contends most women are farsighted and that the new compacts will be particularly helpful when they are fixing their eye makeup.
He also believes that will work well with farsighted women reluctant to wear their glasses to parties and the like.
He said he came upon the idea about eight months ago, discussed it with a number of women and was so impressed by the response he decided to go ahead with the plan.
He said one of the four prescriptions should fit most women.

The Gardner Restaurant & Equipment Supply building, at I-75 and Ohio 73 in Franklin, has been purchased by the principals of Supreme Optical Co., who plan to move the business there.
The purchasers are Mr. and Mrs. John H. Young of Dayton and Harold Young, a brother, from out of state.
Price of the 22-acre site and building was 4530,000. The sale was handled by Harold Callahan of Oyer real estate in Franklin. It was purchased from the Downtowner Corp. of Memphis, which had merged with Gardner.
John Young, president of the family owned wholesale supplier to eye doctors and opticians, said the company would occupy part of the 44,000 square feet under roof.
Young said the move would be made in possibly three to four months and would result in expanded operations, in business and the work force.
Supreme Optical currently has 110 employes at leased facilities, 2853 Springboro Pk. Young has been in the optical business six to seven years.
Business covers a five-state area, servicing doctors and other sources with prescription lenses and frames. The company buys partially finished lenses and other accessories from manufacturers. Supreme has five salesmen on the road.
Young said plans call for developing portions of the building for other operations, and developing more of the 22-acre tract.
The Gardner building was constructed in 1966-67. It was operated by William E. Gardner until late 1969 when the business was sold to Downtowner. It closed down in 1971. The Gardner business was formerly located in Middletown.
