M. Frances Brown, 97, formerly of Indianapolis, died December 27, 2007 in Seminole, Florida.
Survivors include a brother, William T. (Helen) Brown; a sister Patricia (Edward) Snyder; a niece Robin (Dennis) Madden; two great nephews, Lt. Brendan Madden and Zachery Madden; and a great niece Molleigh Madden. Her parents, Ernest and Ruth Brown; a brother, Herbert; and two sisters, Lucile and Josephine precede her in death.
After the early death of their mother, the three sisters entered the Immaculate Conception Academy in Oldenberg, Indiana, where they lived until graduation. They then entered and graduated from St. Vincent's school of Nursing.
When World War II began, Frances joined the US Army, sailed to Europe on the Queen Mary (outfitted as a troop ship) and joined a Mobile Army Surgery Hospital unit under General George S. Patton's command. When the war ended in Europe, Frances served in the Pacific area until the war ended, achieving the rank of Lt. Colonel. She worked in administration, Marriott, in Washington, D.C. and then as head of Public Health Nursing in Washington, D.C. until her retirement to Florida.
A memorial service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, January 28, 2008, in the Peace Chapel at Crown Hill Cemetery, with Rev. Michael Mather officiating. Arrangements: Crown Hill Funeral Home.
