Rochester Weekly Republican, March 6, 19193612
The following facts concerning the life of the late N. A. McClung are of more than ordinary interest to his family, relatives and neighbors:
N. A. McClung was one of six sons, Nelson A., James, John, Augustus G., Rufus, Jesse, born to William and Mary Scott McClung, his birth taking place in Rush County, Ind., Feb. 28, 1846.
When but two and one-half years of age he came to Fulton county with his parents and settled on the land in the Mt. Zion neighborhood, where he spent all the remainder of his life, passing onward at the ripe age of 73 years.
In all the different interests of life that stand for progression and righteousness, Mr. McClung played an important part. For instance, for over fifty years he was a member of Odd Fellows' lodge, and was an elder of the Presbyterian church for forty-three years, and at no time did he lack in earnestness and zeal for the cause of the church, or for the fraternal principles of brotherhood.
He filled the position, also, of president of the Mutual Insurance Company, also director of the Indiana Cyclone Insurance Company, filling both offices with credit to himself and those with whom he was associated.
He is survived by Mrs. McClung, sons Ralph, Arthur, Paul C., (in service) and Mrs. Leone Savage.
Rochester Sentinel, July 12, 1926267
Mrs. Elnora McCLUNG, one of the most prominent residents of the Mt. Zion community, died very suddenly Saturday at midnight at her home four miles southeast of Rochester on the Wabash road. Death was due to heart trouble. Mrs. McClung had been in delicate health for the past four years but her condition was not considered serious.
Mrs. McClung [Elnora DAVIDSON], who was 74 years of age, was born in Fulton county on May 20, 1852, the daughter of Stephen and Katherine DAVIDSON. On September 22nd, 1872 she was married to Newton Augustus McCLUNG, who died several years ago. She was a member of the Mt. Zion Presbyterian church, the Mt. Zion club and the Woman's Christian Temperance Union.
She is survived by three sons, Arthur [McCLUNG] and Paul [McCLUNG] at home, Ralph [McCLUNG] who lives in the Northwest, and one daughter, Mrs. Lucian SAVAGE, of Macy. Mrs. Josephine STINSON, of Athens, is a sister. There are two grandchildren.
