The Kenneth Savage farm north of Macy is observing its sesquicentenninal in the same family this year.
The lineage began on Feb. 1, 1893 when Jesse and Maria Holcombe Yost purchased the farm on Miami County Road 1500 North, which is about a mile north of the Macy-Nyona Lake Road. The land is in Miami County about a mile east of U.S. 31.
A daughter of the Yosts, Hannah, married William Savage and they became owners of the farm in about 1850. Their son, Lucien Savage, became the owner in the early 1900s, and Lucien's son Kenneth Savage now owns the farm.
Both Lucien and Kenneth were born in the farm house that was build in 1872. Lucien died in 1935 but ownership did not transfer to Kenneth until three years later because of delays in paper work, Kenneth says.
Kenneth, who will be 86 years old in April, and his wife Opal have four grown children — William Savage, Toledo, Ohio; Ann Kain, Lexington, S.C.; Frank Savage, Mount Zion, and Steve Savage, at home. A daughter, Lois McClure, is deceased.
