Donald E. Senft of Spring Grove died at 4:25 a.m. yesterday at Country Meadows of York. He was 82.
Mr. Senft was the owner of Senft's Furniture Inc., Spring Grove, for the past 40 years. The business was founded by his grandfather in 1880.
He was also a banker, beginning in 1928 as a teller and bookkeeper at the First National Bank of Spring Grove, which later became Spring Grove National Bank. He was elected to the board of directors in 1953 and became the bank's president and chief executive officer in 1966, a position he held for 20 years. In 1988 he was recognized by the Pennsylvania Bankers Association for 60 years of banking.
He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Spring Grove.
Masonic affiliations include Hanover Patmos Lodge 248 F. & A.M., Tall Cedars of Lebanon York Forest No. 30, Zembo Temple, York County Shrine Club and the Harrisburg Consistory.
He was a charter member of the Spring Grove Lions Club, served as president 1943-44, was club secretary, and had 28 years of perfect attendance. He was installed as a Melvin Jones Fellow of the Lions Club International.
He was a former director of the Spring Grove Area School District and also served on the Spring Grove Area School Authority.
Born in Spring Grove, he was a son of the late W. Clarence and Claudia Stambaugh Senft. He was a step-son of the late Mae E. Knaub Senft.
He leaves his wife, Mae Howe Senft, to whom he was married for 56 years; and a sister, Rose Marie Yohe, Spring Grove.
A daughter, Donna E. Watts died in 1987.
There will be no viewing.
The service is at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at St. Paul Lutheran Church, 201 S. Main St., Spring Grove, with his pastor, the Rev. Glenn D. Miller, officiating.
Burial will be in Spring Grove Cemetery.
After the burial, the family will receive friends at the church.

YORK - Mae (Howe) Senft, 91, died at 11:54 a.m. on Saturday, June 24, 2006, at Manor Care North in York. She was the wife of Donald E. Senft, who died July 5, 1993. The funeral service for Mae will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, July 3, 2006, at Irwin Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 175 N. Main St., Spring Grove, with her pastor, the Rev. Daniel V. Biles, III, officiating. A viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday at the funeral home, prior to the service. She will be laid to rest beside her husband in Spring Grove Cemetery. Mae was born September 21, 1915, in Spring Grove, a daughter of the late Walter and Grace (Kann) Howe. Mrs. Senft was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. She was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, and was a charter member of the Spring Grove Women's Club. Mrs. Senft and her husband, Donald, owned and operated Senft's Furniture, Inc., on Main Street in Spring Grove, for over 40 years. She was the loving mother of one daughter, Donna E. Senft Watts, who died during childbirth in 1987; and a granddaughter, Heather Watts, who died soon after Donna. Mae is survived by nieces and nephews.
