Miss Winifred Mitchell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. E. Mitchell of Ashley st., and Claude W. Barnes of Marathon av. were united in marriage at the Linden Avenue Baptist church, Tuesday morning at 7:30 o'clock. THe Rev. I. N. DePuy officiated, using the double ring ceremony.

Candelabra, holding lighted tapers, and palms and baskets of gladioli adorned the altar.

Arthur Snider at the organ played nuptial music and Mrs. Martin Fish sang "Because" and "All For You," and "I Love You Truly" was played softly during the ceremony.

Robert Barnes, brother of the bridegroom, attended as best man and the ushers were Robert Van Harlingen, Joseph Arzabites, Ray Sweeney and Robert Wiant.

The bride was attended by two bridesmaids, Miss Edna Mitchell, and Mrs. A. R. Sweeney and by Mrs. R. C. Wiant, as matron of honor, who appeared in brown moire trimmed with a nile green sash, her slippers were of green and she carried a spray bouquet of gladioli, roses and smithsonia.

The bridesmaids wore frocks in princess style of green and peach moire respectively, trimmed with brown velvet sashes. Their slippers were of brown and they carried spray bouquets of gladioli, rose and smithsonia.

The bride chose for her wedding gown white satin with a cowl neckline and tiny white buttons down the back. The gown had long sleeves puffed between the shoulder and the elbow and fitted tightly at the waist. A long tulle veil, held to a cap of lace, was fastened with clusters of orange blossoms on either side. She carried a spray bouquet of white gladioli, roses and smithsonia.

The bride's mother wore a fail gown of black and white and a corsage of gardenias.

A reception for relatives and friends was held Tuesday evening from 8;30 until 10"30 o'clock at the home of the bride's parents.

BARNES, Claude W., age 71, of Dayton, died Wednesday at Washington Manor South. He was a retired accountant and former owner of Dayton Tax & Accounting Service. Member of Linden Ave. Baptist Church and Alpha Lodge No. 129 F&AM. He is survived by his wife, Winifred R.; 1 daughter, Judith Haskins, and son-in-law, William; sister-in-law, Mary Barnes; nephew, Robert L. Barnes; 2 grandchildren, Jennifer and Jonathan. Services 2 p.m. Saturday, Morris Sons Funeral Home, 1771 E. Dorothy Ln. Pastor C. Donald Thrash officiating. Burial Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends Friday 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Linden Ave. Baptist Church Memorial Fund.

BARNES, Winifred R.

Age 89 of Kettering, died Friday, February 13, 2004 at Friendship Village of Columbus. Preceded in death by her husband, Claude W. Barnes in 1983 and a sister, Elvina Arden. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Judy Ann & William Haskins of Columbus, a sister-in-law, Mary Barnes and nephew, Robert Lee Barnes, both of Dayton, two grandchildren, Jenny Haskins and Jon & wife, Laura Haskins and one great granddaughter, Kara Haskins. Winifred was formerly a member of Linden Avenue Baptist Church where she taught adult Sunday School for many years. She was a member of the Altrusa International Club of Dayton and was active in Insurance Women of Dayton. Winifred retired after 33 years from Pottinger & Co., volunteered at Miami Valley Hospital for 14 years and was active in Dayton Victory Chapter #594, O.E.S. Funeral Service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday at Morris Sons Funeral Home, 1711 E. Dorothy Lane, Kettering. Burial will follow at Glen Haven Memory Gardens Cemetery. Visitation will be held 12:30 p.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
