The Rev. G. E. Miller performed the marriage of Miss Bette J. Hershey, granddaughter of Mrs. Annie Hershey, 120 South Sumner street and daughter of Earl Hershey, 1242 Lancaster avenue, and Mrs. Hazel Heffner, 1927 West Filbert street, who became the bride of William J. Beecher, son of Mr. and Mrs. William R. Beecher, of Hallam. The double ring ceremony took place this afternoon at 3 o'clock in St. James Lutheran church.
Escorted by her father, the bride wore a white satin gown fashioned with a heart-shaped neckline, long train and sleeves ending in points at the wrists. Her veil was of fingertip length and she carried a bouquet of white roses and gladioli.
The matron of honor, Mrs. Paul Wernig, wore a dress of pink marquisette. The bridesmaids, Miss Phyllis Berkheimer and Miss Carmen Spangler, were attired in blue, while the flower girl, Miss Sonja Lee Hershey, wore pink taffeta. All the attendants wore flowers in their hair and carried bouquets of roses and gladioli matching their dresses. The flower girl carried a basket of white cut flowers.
The bride's mother wore grey with black accessories. Mrs. Annie Hershey, grandmother of the bride, was attired in a black and white print with black accessories; while the mother of the bridegroom wore navy blue with black accessories. Their flowers were shoulder bouquets of pink rosebuds.
A reception at the Old Homestead Inn followed the ceremony and the couple left to spend the week-end at Accomac, leaving on Monday for a motor trip to Canada. Upon their return they will reside in an apartment at 120 South Sumner street.
A graduate of West York High school, class of 1943, the bride is a stenographer for the Barnes Wall Paper company. Mr. Beecher was graduated from William Penn class of 1940. He served for three years with the army stationed in the states and European theater. Having attended Temple university, Philadelphia, he is now studying commercial art at the Rudy Class company.

Mrs. Bette J. Beecher, 63, of 911 S. Russell St., died at 4:10 a.m. Wednesday at York Hospital.
She was the wife of William J. Beecher.
Mrs. Beecher was a former employee of Merrill Lynch. She was also a member of St. James Lutheran Church in West York and the Early Birds Camping Club.
Born in West York, daughter of the late Earl Hershey and the late Hazel Geiselman Heffner.

Viewing will be 7 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Etzweiler Funeral Home, 1111 E. Market St.
Funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Officiating will be the Rev. Robert E. Nale, her pastor, and the Rev. Arthur F. Edmunds, retired. Interment will be at the Mt. Prospect Cemetery, Seven Valleys.

William Jesse Beecher, 92, went to be with his Lord on July 13, 2014. He was the husband of Bette Jane (Hershey) Beecher who died in August 1988. He was born in York on June 22, 1922, a son of the late William Ross and Florence (Briggs) Beecher. Bill was a 1940 graduate of William Penn Senior High School and attended Temple University. Early in his career, he worked with Rudy Glass and then spent 31 years with the U.S. Postal Service. He was an U.S. Army veteran of World War II and the Korean War. He and Bette were avid campers until her death in 1988. Bill is survived by nieces, Sonia L. Breneman and husband Norman of York, and Glenda Taurins and husband Indulus of New Smyrna, Fla.
