Wernig—Hershey

The marriage of Pauline C. Hershey, granddaughter, of Mrs. Annie C. Hershey, 120 South Sumner street, and Paul A. Wernig, son of Charles Wernig, York R. D. 2 was solemnized in the Rectory of St. Mary's Catholic church, Saturday at 5 p. m. Father Rudolph Fuhr performed the double ring ceremony. The bride wore a white gown with a fingertip veil and a crown of orange blossoms. She carried a bouquet of white roses. Serving as the bride's attendants were Bette Hershey, sister of the bride, and Margaret Wernig, sister of the bridegroom. Miss Hershey wore a pink gown and matching headdress, while Miss Wernig was similarly attired in blue. They carried bouquets of pink roses. Ivan C. Wernig, brother of the bridegroom, was the best man. Mrs. Hershey wore a black and white print dress and gardenia corsage. A reception for 65 persons was held at the Old Homestead inn following the ceremony. The couple left later for a trip to the seashore. The newlyweds will reside at the home of the bride's grandmother upon their return. The former Miss Hershey is employed by the Reliance Manufacturing company. The bridegroom is associated with Charles A. Wernig and Sons, florists.

Paul A. Wernig

Paul A. Wernig, husband of Pauline C. Hershey Wernig, died at 7:15 p. m. yesterday at his home, 47 East Cottage place. He was 57.

A member of the firm of Charles M. Wernig's Sons, 1850 South George street, he also was member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and its Holy Name Society, Pennsylvania Flower Growers Association, Ohio Flower Growers Association and York Allied Florists.

He was the son of the late Charles M. and Gertrude Selak Wernig.

Besides his wife he leaves two brothers, Ivan C. Wernig, 1650 South George street and Robert H. Wernig, York R. D. 2, and a sister, Mrs. Margaret Weaver, York R. D. 2.

Funeral services will be held at 8:30 a. m. Thursday at the Edward W. Baumeister Colonial Mortuary, Queen and Jackson streets, with a requiem mass following at 9 a. m. in St. Mary's church. The Right Rev. Msgr. Harold E. Keller, pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment in Holy Saviour Cemetery.

J. Joseph Schlegel of York died of natural causes at 6:40 p.m. Wednesday at York Hospital. He was 80.

He retired as a self-employed painter and carpentery contractor.

Mr. Schlegel was a 1931 graduate of Williamson Trade School of Mechanical Trade, Media, Delaware County.

He was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church, Golden Nugget of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Susquehanna Yacht Club, and American Association of Retired Persons.

Born in West Chester, Chester County, he was a son of the late Andre and Johnna Hoehn Schlegel.

He was the husband of the late Carlyn Bankert Schlegel.

He leaves his second wife, Pauline C. Hershey Wernig Schlegel; two daughters, Joanne K. Stump, York, and Jeanne L. Snelbaker, Manchester; three grandchildren; a stepgrandson; a great-granddaughter; a step-great-grandson; a brother, Andrew Schlegel, Sun City Center, Fla.; and a sister, Katharine Schlegel, Media.

Viewing is scheduled for 1 to 2 p.m. tomorrow at Baumeister, Orcutt and Small Mortuaries Inc., South Queen and East Jackson streets.

The service is to begin at 2 p.m. tomorrow at the mortuary, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. E. Gordon Ross, officiating.

Burial will be in Greenmount Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Williamson Trade School of Mechanical Trade, Media, Pa. 19063.

Pauline C. (Hershey) Wernig Schlegel

Pauline C. (Hershey) Wernig Schlegel, 84, of Springettsbury Township, entered into rest at 2:10 a.m. Monday, May 17, 2004 at Manor Care Health Services Kingston Court. She was the wife of the late Paul A. Wernig, and the late John J. Schlegel.

Born December 4, 1919 in Dover, a daughter of the late Earl and Hazel (Geiselman) Hershey, she had first worked at Stock Shirt Factory, and later at South Pine Nightwear, where she worked for many years. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, and was a former member of its Golden Nuggets. She was an avid quilter, and had also been a member of the Susquehanna Yacht Club.

Mrs. Schlegel is survived by two nieces, Sonja L. Breneman and Glenda M. Taurins, both of York; two grand nieces, Jodie L. Breneman and Krista A. Taurins; two grand nephews, Jerrold J. Breneman, and Delvin G. Miller; and a brother-in-law, William J. Beecher of York.

Funeral services are scheduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at Baumeister, Orcutt & Small Mortuaries, Inc., South Queen at Jackson Street, York with Brother Michael B. Rubus officiating. Viewing will be 9 to 10 a.m. Burial will be in Holy Savior Cemetery.
