Of interest to Joplin friends is the marriage of Miss Frances Bush, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Bush of Milwaukee, to Mr. Henley Blair of Kansas City, son of Judge David Blair and Mrs. Blair of this city. The wedding took place May 23 in the home of the bride's parents. The ceremony was read by the Rev. Andres Gladstone Finnie, pastor of the Immanuel Presbyterian church of Milwaukee.
Mr. Bush escorted his daughter to the improvised altar, which was flanked on either side with tall standards filled with calla lilies, white stock, larkspur, lilacs, snapdragons and gladioli. Tapers in tall candelabra lighted the scent and bowls of white flowers decorated the room.
The bride wore a gown of white crepe de chine over luster satin. White silk stitching outlined the small V in the back, the seams of the sleeves and the pointed cuff of the long sleeves. Caught to the wide girdle that encircled the waistline was a long train that fell over the shorter train that graduated from the skirt to the gown. A twisted cap of tulle held the bride's long tulle veil. She carried a pendant shaped bouquet of gardenias and lilies of the valley.
Preceding the bride to the altar were the attendants, Miss Marle Kuehn, Miss Sara Smith of Sweet Springs, Mo., a cousin of the bridegroom, and Miss Eleanor Blair, a sister of the bridegroom. Their bouffant gowns were fashioned alike of delicate apple green mouseline de soie. With the gowns the girls wore matching jackets, fitted at the waistline with a slight pelem at the hips, full puff sleeves and small ruffled collars marking the necklines. Two velvet ribbons, one light violet and the other dar violet, encircled the waistlines of the gowns and fell in loose streamers down the front. To match the violet ribbons, purple sweet peas were used in the girls' round bouquets of swansonia, lilies of the valley and double French white lilacs. The brimmed hats of the attendants were of the pale green mousseline de soie.
Richard Dudley Shewmaker of St. Louis was the best man and the ushers were the bride's cousin, Donald Barlety of Milwaukee, and Charles Orr of Kansas City.
Mrs. Bush, the bride's mother, wore a gown of dusty pink organza with shoulder bouquet of cybidium orchids. The bridegroom's mother, Mrs. David E. Blair of Joplin, Mo., who with Judge Blair attended their son's wedding, wore a flowered chiffon gown with camhamiama orchids.
After the ceremony the young people remained standing before the fireplace to greet their friends. The wedding dinner was served at small tables of 10 for the guests and a larger table for the wedding party. In the center of the bride's table was the wedding cake and around it were bowls of white lilacs, lilies of the valley and swainsona. The other tables, too, had bowls of white spring flowers. White candles lighted the tables.
Among the out of town guests at the wedding were Mr. and Mrs. George Ganz of Fort Peck, Mont.; Mr. and Mrs. Balfour Phelan and Robert Goodstead of Chicago, Thomas Carter Johnson and Mrs. J. D. Bartlety of St. Louis, Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Bartley, Mrs. Kirk Smith and Miss Ada and Mis Ida Bush of Fulton, Mo., and William Bush Smith of Philadelphia.
Mr. Blair and his bride will live at 3332 Gillam road, Kansas City.
The bride is an active member of the Milwaukee Junior league. Mr. Blair's father has been the holder of one of the highest legal offices in Missouri—a judge of the supreme court of the state.
