Former Resident of Slope Named Chief Engineer on Santa Fe

Thomas A. Blair of Park Ridge, Ill., was recently named chief engineer of the Santa Fe railway system after having been in the service of that company since Aug. 1, 1915, when he was employed at Pueblo, soon after receiving his engineering degree from the University of Colorado.

Blair is the son of the late Bryson P. Blair, who passed away only about a year ago in Phoenix, Ariz. The father was an early-day resident of DeBeque, and served at deputy county clerk of Mesa county about the turn of the century. He later moved to Montrose, after being named an official in the U. S. land office then located there.

As chief engineer of one of the nation's largest rail systems, Blair succeeded Guy W. Harris, retired. Blair was born at DeBeque, June 1, 1892, during the boom days of that city. He attended grade and high schools at Grand Junction and Montrose and was graduated from Colorado university in 1913 as a civil engineer. Since 1915 Blair has served as transitman, office engineer, building inspector, road master, assistant engineer, division engineer, district engineer and trainmaster. In 1938 he was appointed chief engineer of the western lines and in 1943 was transferred to Chicago as assistant chief engineer, from which position he has been elevated to the top engineering job. Mr. and Mrs. Blair with their son and daughter reside in Park Ridge, Ill.
