Jeanne, age 63 of Edmond passed away Tuesday at the Edmond Memorial Hospital. Funeral services 10:30 AM Friday at the Baggerley Chapel. Born in Miami Okla, lived in Medwest City Okal for 29 years before moving to Edmond in 1978. A member of the Science of the Mind Church and a Housewife. Survivors include 1 daughter Brenda Freeman of Edmond, 1 son Ralph Bowyer of Houston Texas, 1 sister Gwendolyn Hudson WIchita Kansas, 5 grandchildren.

WREN BOWYER

1918-2013

RANCHO MIRAGE, CA Native Oklahoman and WWII Hero, Wren Bowyer, passed away August 27 in Rancho Mirage, CA. Wren was born in Alex, OK to Ralph & Margaret Bowyer on May 12, 1918, and grew up in Chickasha, OK. The family moved to Oklahoma City, where Wren attended Webster Junior High and Central High schools. Wren had four siblings, Jack, Robert, Beatrice, and Juanita. He married Jeanne Shepard Glass in 1936; they had two children, Ralph Gordon and Brenda Wren.During WWII, Wren enlisted in the Army Air Corps; he was sent to flight school and became a pilot, commanding a B-24 Bomber, the "Liberator." His crew was stationed in the European Theatre, flying out of Italy. During the war, "The Daily Oklahoman" featured two articles on the front page about his adventures. Wren's crew and plane were shot down over Linz, Austria, on their 50th mission, their last mission before being scheduled to return home. The rest of the war for Wren was spent in a German prison camp, Stalag Luft I in Barth, Germany. At the insistence of family members, Wren wrote a book about his life in the military as a pilot and POW. The book and audio tapes are treasured gifts to his family and friends. Following the war, as a true salesman, Wren worked as district manager of the Hoover Co. in Tulsa, OK. In the early 50s, Wren moved his family to Midwest City and opened a furniture and appliance store, "Wren Bowyer Furniture." "A little out of the way, but much less to pay" was the motto. His retirement years were spent in Texas, where he met and married Jo Via. They traveled the U.S., which eventually ended in Oceanside, CA, where they resided. Wren was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne; his parents; his two brothers; sister, Juanita "Shug;" granddaughter, Victoria; and wife, Jo. He is survived by his sister, Betty "Sweet," Oceanside, CA; children, Ralph Gordon, Garland, TX; and Brenda W. Freeman, Rancho Mirage, CA; grandchildren, Kit (Janet) Heath, TX; Deidre (Garry) Chicago, IL; Keith, Carmichael, CA; Rich (Diane), Eugene, OR; Beth (Randy) Austin, TX; and 11 great-grandchildren.
