Ray L. Buckles, 68, of R.R. 1, Carthage died Thursday of last week at Hancock Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.
Survivors are his wife, Bonnie Lowry Buckles; daughter, Linda Lashbrook of rural Carthage; son Tom of Knightstown; brothers, Jewell, Wesley and Clyde all of Tennessee; half brother Charles Danner; and a grandson.
He was born July 17, 1918 in Elizabethton,Tenn. He was a veteran of World War II. He retired in 1978 as a letter carrier from the Knightstown Post Office where he had been employed for 31 years.
He was a member for 22 years of the Knightstown Volunteer Fire Departemnt. He was a member of the Knightstown Knights of Pythias Lodge, Knightstown American Legion, and the Rural Letter Carriers Association. He was associated with the Knightstown Friends Church.
Services were Monday morning in Butcher Funeral Home with Rev. Gene Lewis and E.K. Penrose officiating. Burial was in Glen Cove Cemetery.
Bonnie Lou Buckles, 93, of Carthage, passed away Thursday, March 16, 2017 at her residence. She was born September 26, 1923 in Hancock County the daughter of Charles Walter and Ethel (Miller) Lowry.
Bonnie came to Knightstown when she was 20 years old from Madison, IN. She was a photographer almost her entire life and owned and operated Bonnie Buckles Studios at her home. She volunteered at the Knightstown High School for 10 years, was a Brownie, Girl Scout leader and Cub Scout den mother for many years, enjoyed doing crafts and belonged to the local writers club. Bonnie taught Sunday School at the Knightstown Friends Church for 15 years. She maintained a lifelong association with the Dawn Bible Students Association. Bonnie was known in the community for her public speaking at local organizations on topics such as herbs and various subjects of the Bible. She also would dress in costume as different women of the Bible and tell the Bible story associated with her character. A connoisseur of costume jewelry, Bonnie was known for her collection and hours could be spent viewing.
She is survived by her children, Linda Lashbrook of Carthage and Tom (Janet) Buckles of Carthage; grandchildren, Ryan Lashbrook of Anderson, Dr. Tiffany Wills (Stephen) Grant of New Orleans and Tyler Wills of Carthage; great grandchildren, Brock Lashbrook of Carthage and Amelie Grant of New Orleans.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Buckles.
Visitation will be from 11 AM – 1 PM Monday, March 20, 2017 at Hinsey-Brown Funeral Service Knightstown Chapel. Services will be at 1:00 PM with Brother John Trzeciak officiating. Burial will follow in Glen Cove Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be given to the Dawn Bible Students Association, 199 Railroad Avenue, East Rutherford, NJ 07073.8440
