Newlyweds Honor Guests at Party

Honoring Mr. and Mrs. Marlon J. Buckner who were married recently, an enjoyable surprise shower was give Saturday evening at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Engle, 677 N. Currier street. The bride was formerly Miss Elizabeth Pearl Engle. Mr. Buckner is the son of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Buckner, 253 Lemon street, Orange. The wedding of the couple took place in Costa Mesa.

Guests at the party Saturday were Mr. and Mrs. R. Vejar, Mr. and Mrs. George Trotter and daughter, Georgia; A. D. Perry, A. Alvarado, the Misses Josie and Louise Carrion, Mrs. Y. Joseph M. Buckner

Joseph M. Buckner, of Hanford died May 8 at his residence in Hanford. Mr. Buckner was employed as leadman supervisor for heavy equipment operators at the United States Marine Corp Base in Barstow. He retired in 1970.

Mr. Buckner was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth in 1995 after 65 years of marriage. He also was predeceased by his parents.

Mr. Buckner was a member of the Masonic Lodge and Assembly of God both of Barstow.

Mr. Buckner is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Joel and Patricia Buckner of Hanford; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Buckner of Barstow; a sister, Marie Byrum of Bakersfield; three grandchildren, Mark Buckner of Hanford, Tony Buckner of San Diego and Robin Tolbert of Hanford; and five great-grandchildren.

Visitation is from noon to 5 p.m. today at Whitehurst-McNamara Funeral Service Chapel. Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the chapel. Burial will be at Grangeville Cemetery in Armona.
