Irene B. Whiteis of Jefferson Manor, Dallas, peacefully died Feb. 10, 2015, at Salem Hospital.
She was born in Brownsville to Marion and Beulah (Hughes) Carey. She grew up in the Brownsville area and went to Brownsville schools. She married Sedral Whiteis in 1944. They lived at Waldport and Newport before they made their home outside Brownsville, living there until his death, when Irene moved to Corvallis, then to Dallas.
Irene worked in many of the stores and restaurants in Brownsville while raising three children, then went to work in the Oregon State University Facilities Department until 1984. She was a hard worker and always was helping her neighbors. She always was outside, gardening and taking care of flowers, playing softball, riding bikes, fishing, going to garage sales and dancing. She belonged to the Sweet Home Elks Lodge and the Corvallis Eagles Lodge.
Survivors are daughter and son-in-law Sharon and Dennis Whitney of La Pine; son and daughter-in-law Charles and Jan Whiteis of Corvallis, and grandson Jim Whiteis of Salem; daughter Joyce Galloway and granddaughter and grandson-in-law Jody and Dan Jarvis of Philomath; sister LaMoile Jackson of Pendleton; and nieces and nephews she loved very much.
She was preceded in death by husband Sedral Whiteis; father and mother Marion and Beulah (Hughes) Carey; two brothers, Eugene and Wilson Carey; granddaughter Darla Robinson; sister-in-law Rosemary Carey of Eugene; daughter-in-law Janet Whiteis; and son-in-law Bert Galloway.
A service will take place at a later date.
