Richmond Palladium: Miss Maggie Cochrane, of Fort Wayne, and her niece, Miss Emma Sweet, who has been visiting the family of John S. Lyle, esq., returned to Fort Wayne Saturday evening.
Fort Wayne Daily News, September 7, 19113776
Failing eyesight has forced Miss Margaret Cochrane to resign as principal of the Washington school, after many years' service in that capacity. The resignation has been accepted by the school board and J. R. Coar, of Shelbyville, who has been principal of the school there, has been appointed in her place.
Miss Cochrane is the second principal the Washington school has ever had. The first was Miss Marks, who was succeeded by Miss Cochrane some twenty years ago. Previous to her appointment as principal Miss Cochrane had been teaching in the public schools in this city for a number of years. She is one of the best liked and most successful principals in the city.
Mr. Coar, the new principal, comes to the position highly recommended. He will make the fourth man to be principal of local schools.
