Mr. and Mrs. Weldon William Berry announce the engagement of their daughter, Doris Jean Berry to Edwin Geary Crist II, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Foster Crist of Harrisonburg.
Miss Berry was graduated from Brenau College, Gainesville, Ga., where she was a member of Phi Mu National Social sorority.
Mr. Crist attended Duke University and is now a candidate in the Officers' Training School, Fort Benning, Ga.

Funeral services for Edwin Geary (Ed) Crist II, 77, of 442 Fairway Drive in Harrisonburg, will be held at ten o'clock Saturday morning from Asbury United Methodist Church with the Rev L. Douglas Hill, Rev. James M. John and Rev. Anne Hough officiating. Burial will follow in Woodbine Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:00 this (Friday) evening at the Lindsey-Harrisonburg Funeral Home.

A son of the late Clarence F. and Anna Dean Crist, he was born on April 19, 1921 in Harrisonburg. He graduated from Harrisonburg High School, where he played basketball and football. He also attended Duke University.
Ed served in the 29th Division of the United States Army during World War II and transferred to Military Intelligence at the rank of Captain. He was awarded the Bronze Star for bravery while flying solo missions taking aerial photos behind enemy lines. After military service, he became a general contractor with Berry Lumber and Supply Co. In 1950 he opened the first branch office of Branch Cabell & Co., where he served as general partner until his retirement in 1982.
His main hobbies were boating and flying. He soloed at age 14. He was past commander of the Virginia Yacht Club.
He was an active member of the Harrisonburg Rotary Club for 50 years and also a member of the Harrisonburg Elks Lodge No. 450. Mr. Crist served for many years on the board of directors of Rockingham Milling Co. and on the board of trustees of Rockingham Memorial Hospital. He was a member of Asbury United Methodist Church.
On Aug. 17, 1942, he married Doris (Dottie) Berry, who survives.
He also leaves two sons, Edwin Geary Crist III and his wife, Brenda R. Crist of Virginia Beach; and Douglas Alan Crist and his wife, Cynthia D. Crist, of Richmond, Va.; two grandsons, Edwin Geary Crist IV and Douglas Alan Crist Jr.; two granddaughters, Jennifer Lynn Crist and Sarah Foster Crist; and one great-granddaughter, Siera Marie Crist.
Mr. Crist died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 1999, at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond.

Mrs. Doris B. "Dottie" Crist of the Brandermill Woods Retirement Community in Midlothian, Va., died Saturday, April 26, 2003 at Johnston-Willis Hospital in Richmond, Va.
Mrs. Crist was born Dec. 23, 1920, in Harrisonburg, Va., and was a daughter of the late Weldon and Myee McFall Berry.
On Oct. 17, 1942, she married Edwin Geary Crist II, who preceded her in death on Jan. 20, 1999.
Mrs. Crist was a 1938 graduate of Harrisonburg High School. She graduated in 1942 from Brenau College in Gainesville, Ga., with a degree in music and a minor in piano. Mrs. Crist was a member and past president of the Phi Mu sorority. In 1940, she was crowned Miss Harrisonburg and also represented the city of Harrisonburg as the Maid of Honor in the Queen of the Tobacco Festival.
Mrs. Crist was an active member of Asbury United Methodist Church. She belonged to the Colonial Garden Club, formerly known as the Harrisonburg Garden Club, and was a past president of the Harrisonburg Women's Club. Mrs. Crist was a member of the Spotswood Country Club, the Virginia Yacht Club and was active with the Cub Scouts when here children were growing up. She was an avid golfer, enjoyed boating, loved to travel and belonged to several bridge clubs.
Mrs. Crist is survived by two sons, Edwin Geary Crist III and wife, Brenda R., and Douglas A. Crist and wife, Cynthia D.; four grandchildren, Edwin Geary Crist IV, Jennifer Lynn Fleischer, Douglas Alan Crist and Sarah Foster Crist; three great-grandchildren and two nephews, Paige E. Berry and Roland H. Berry Jr. She is also survived by a devoted friend, Lisa R. Branner of Richmond.
A funeral will be conducted at Asbury United Methodist Church by the Rev. L. Douglas Hill on Tuesday, April 29, at 1 p.m. Interment will follow at Woodbine Cemetery.
The family will receive friends on Monday, April 28, from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home,
