Crist—Dean

Mr. Clarence F. Crist and Miss Anna Martha Dean were married at the home of the bride's parents, Mr. and Mrs. William Dean, on South Main Street, Thursday morning at 8:30 o'clock, by Dr. H. M. Canter, pastor of the Harrisonburg Methodist Church.

The bride is a graduate of the Harrisonburg High School, a former student of the State Normal School and has a large circle of friends in this city. Mr. Crist is a son of Mr. and Mrs. E. G. Crist, and is buyer for Merchants Grocery and Hardware Company of this city. He is a graduate of the University of Virginia and served eighteen months with the University Ambulance Corps in France.

The Dean home was attractively decorated for the occasion. Only a few relatives and friends witnessed the ceremony, after which a wedding breakfast was served. Mr. and Mrs. Crist then left for Atlantic City, where they will spend a week or ten days. On their return they will be at home to their many friends at the home of the groom's parents on West Market Street.

Mrs. Anna Crist Dies at Hospital

Wife of Clarence Crist Dies Unexpectedly. Funeral Tues.

Mrs. Anna Dean Crist, 56, wife of Clarence F. Crist, and mother of Edwin G. Crist II, and well known and beloved Harrisonburg resident, died at 8:25 Sunday morning at Rockingham Memorial Hospital.

Mrs. Crist had not enjoyed good health for some time and had been a patient in the local hospital since Sept. 9. Although her condition was known to be serious her death was unexpected and came as a shock to her family and to her host of friends.

A daughter of the late William Dean and Mattie Bower Dean, she was born Dec. 23, 1899, in Harrisonburg, where she spent practically her entire life. On June, 3, 1920, she married Clarence F. Crist who survives her.

Besides her husband and one son, Edwin Geary Crist II, she is survived by two grandchildren, Edwin Geary Crist III and Douglas Allen Crist. She also leaves three sisters, Mrs. Clayton (Mary) Willis of Cape Charles; Mrs. Donald L. (Virginia) Hague of Wilmington, Del., and Mrs. Eugene D. (Sara) Farley of Portland, Ore.; and three brothers, Henry B. Dean of Bonsal, Calif.; Edward P. Dean of Andover, Mass., and James L. Dean of Laurence, Mass. A number of nieces and nephews also survive.

A brother, William Dean, preceded her in death.

Mrs. Crist was a devoted wife and mother and had a cheerful and lovable personality that endeared her to all with whom she came in contact. She was a devout Christian and was a faithful member of the Harrisonburg Presbyterian Church and took an active interest in the affairs of the church.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday morning at eleven o'clock from the Harrisonburg Presbyterian Church with her pastor, Dr. Albert G. Edwards, in charge. Burial will be in Woodbine cemetery.

Active pallbearers will be Merman V. Price, Harry B. Price, Claude Garber, Rolland H. Berry, Page Price and Fred K. Betts III.

The relatives will meet at the Crist residence, 133 North High St., Tuesday morning at 10:40 where a brief service will be held prior to leaving for the church. THe pallbearers have been requested to meet at the church at 10:45.

The body is at the Lindsey funeral home.

Clarence Foster Crist

Clarence Foster Crist, 81, who lived in Harrisonburg 55 years before entering the Bridgewater Home for the Aging, died at Rockingham Memorial Hospital Tuesday morning.

Mr. Crist had retired from the Branch Cabell and Co. stock brokerage firm.

He had attended the University of Virginia and served overseas in the Army during World War I.

Mr. Crist was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Harrisonbug, the Harrisonburg Elks Lodge and Rion-Bowman Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 632 and formerly was a Mason.

He ws born June 29, 1893 at Sangerville and was the sone of the late Edwin G. and Hattie Virginia Blakemore Crist.

In June of 1920, Mr. Crist married Anna Martha Dean, who died Oct. 16, 1955.

Surviving are a son, Edwin G. Crist II of Harrisonburg; two grandchildren, and a great-grandson.

The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday in woodbine Cemetery by the Rev. Joseph Sefcik.

The body is at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home, where friends may call. The family will receive friends at the home of Edwin Crist II of Rt. 1, Harrisonburg.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the Bridgewater Home for the Aging in memory of Mr. Crist. Contributions may be sent to the Office of the Bridgewater Hoem for the Aging, Bridgewater, Va.
