Mrs. Agnes Gifford Crowley, wife of Jerome A. Crowley, died Wednesday morning at her home in Jamestown Street.
Mrs. Crowley was born in Pleasantville, Pa., April 16, 1874, the daughter of John M. and Ruth Ann Hall Gifford. She was a direct descendent of Lieutenant Philemon Hall, a solder in the American Revolutionary Army and one of the founders of the Society of the Cincinnati.
She was a graduate of Chamberlain Institute, having been a member of the class of 1897.
Mrs. Crowley was active in a number of organizations of the village and county. She was one of the charter members of the Cattaraugus County Tuberculosis and Public Health Association and was an officer of that organization when it won the Millbank memorial award. Her interest in this society was prompted to an extent by the fact that her father and mother died of tuberculosis.
Mrs. Crowley was a charter member of Fidelity Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star, also of the Randolph Nursing Committee and the Randolph Garden Club. For the past 12 years she had been treasurer of the Randolph Chapter of the American Red Cross and she had, for years, been an active worker in the Women's Union of the Federated church.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by a son, Addison Gifford Crowley of Randolph.
The funeral service will be held at the home Saturday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock with Rev. Harold W. Freer of the Federation church officiating. Burial will be in the Randolph cemetery.
