LEWISOHN, Florence Davis - Born October 13, 1911 Warsaw, MO, died peacefully on April 12, 2005 in Corte Madera, CA. Florence was a journalist and historian. In the 1930's when female journalists were few and far between she worked for The Oregonian the San Francisco Chronicle and CBS during WWII was she was the OWI's Far East editor. Florence went on to chronicle the arts, culture and history of the West Indies in 8 volumes, including "St. Croix Under Seven Flags", "Tales of Tortola", and "The Living Arts and Crafts of the West Indies". Florence and her late husband Walter P. Lewisohn, spent more than 30 years collecting, chronicling, preserving and promoting the arts, culture and history of their beloved West Indies. Florence is survived by her sons Loren, Leonard and his wife Jane, her sister Mary E. Peters, her sister-in-law Garnet Davis, nieces Barbara Davis Granicher, Judy Peters Noonan and many grand nieces and grand nephews. A service will be held on Monday the April 18, 11 am at Russell and Gooch Funeral Chapel, 270 Miller Ave., Mill Valley, CA 94941. Tel 415-388-1573. Cremation to follow.
