HERBERT F. GREINER

Herbert F. Greiner, 90, died Friday, Dec. 29, 1995 at the Plumas County District Hospital in Quincy.

He was born in Hamberg, Germany on Jan. 28, 1905 and an Indian Valley resident since 1937.

He had been a self employed miner and had owned and operated the Caribou Mine for over 50 years. He had worked on Wall Street for the American Trading Co. from 1928-1937; and had served with the U.S. Army during World War II.

He was a member of the Mt. Jura Gem and Mineral Society, Indian Valley Grange and the Lumber Production and Industrial Workers Union Local 3074, he studied geology at Princeton prior to moving west to search for gold.

He is survived by his wife Mary of Greenville; son, Rich of Greenville; step-son, Royce Stevens of Yerrington, Nev; step-daughter, Ardith Stevens of Yerrington, Nev.; four step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Jan. 3, at 1 p.m. at the First Baptist in Greenville. Interment will follow in the Greenville District Cemetery.

INDIAN VALLEY, Calif. — Visitation for Mary C. Day Greiner, 91, who died May 10, 1999, at Indian Valley District Hospital Long Term Care Unit, is scheduled from 5 to 8 p.m. today at Fehrman Mortuary and Crematory, Greenville, Calif.

A Golconda native (Humboldt County), she was born March 20, 1908, to Harry and Josephine (Ritts) Day and had lived in Indian Valley since 1934, coming from Reno.

Mrs. Greiner was a homemaker. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greenville; former member of the Indian Valley Grange, Indian Valley Rebekah Lodge, Mount Jura Gem and Mineral Society and a 4-H leader.

Her husband, Herb, died isn 1995, son, Knute Stevens in 1969 and she was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.

Surviving are son, Royce Stevens of Loyalton, Calif.; daughter, Ardith Schacht and stepson, Richard Greiner, both of Greenville; four grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

A celebration of her life is scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at the church, with burial at Greenville District Cemetery.

A memorial is being established with the hospital's long term care unit, c/o the mortuary, Box 803, Greenville 95947.
