Children of DORIS MIRIAM HOUSTON and FREDERICK MANVIL ENGLEKA:
Clarinda Herald-Journal, February 19, 19404948
The home of Mr. and Mrs. R. E. Houston was the scene of a beautiful and impressive wedding Wednesday noon, when their daughter, Doris Miriam, was united in holy matrimony to Frederick Engleka, son of Frederick Engleka, sr., of Neman Grove, Nebr.
Preceding the ceremony Phyllis Jean Kerns sang "I Love You Truly," the accompaniment played by Miss Mildred Heller, who also played Lohengrin's Wedding March. Dr. A. B. Thutt, pastor of the Presbyterian church in Clarinda, led the procession, followed by the groom and his attendant, Claire Gilmore, to one corner of the living room. Georgia Ann Mashr, niece of the room, was the first of the bridal party to descend the stairway, followed by the bride's sister and attendant, Charlene Gilmore, and then the bride on the arm of her father. The single ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Dr. Thutt.
The bride was very pretty in a blue silk crepe dress with white accessories. She carried a shower bouquet of pink roses and freesia and wore a coronet of orange blossoms in her hair. Her sister wore a wine colored silk crepe dress with white accessories and a corsage of sweet peas.
Little Georgia Ann wore a dainty ruffled dress of pink silk and carried the ring in a pink rose. The groom and his attendant wore dark suits with a pink carnation in the coat lapel.
The color scheme of pink and white was carried out in the decorations and refreshments. Following the ceremony a reception was held for 35 relatives and friends. A two course luncheon was served by the Misses Nola Schantz, Eva Fisher, Mildred Heller and Mary Anna Hughes. Favors were tiny corsages of sweet peas and ferns.
Out-of-town guests were Mrs. Ruth Brandel, Mrs. Beda Adams and Mrs. Arlen Schmidt, sisters of the groom, Miss Ilean Schmidt, Norma and Nadine Brandel and Shirley Jean and Beverly Schmidt, all of Omaha, Nebr., and Mr. and Mrs. Claire Gilmore and Doris Elaine of Wymore, Nebr.
Mr. and Mrs. Engleka will be at home after March 1st on a farm seven miles northeast of Clarinda.
