Gilmore-Houston

The country home of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Houston near Clarinda was the scene of a beautiful and most impressive candlelight wedding Wednesday evening when their daughter, Miss Charlene, was united in holy matrimony to Claire Gilmore, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harley Gilmore, of near Hawleyville. At 7:30 o'clock Miss Faith Willsie, friend of the bride, play Lohengrin wedding march as the bridal party descended the stairway. Dr. A. B. Thutt, pastor of the Presbyterian church in Clarinda, led the procession, followed by Miss Doris Houston, the bride's sister and only attendant. The bride and groom were next in order as they came down together. The bride was lovely in an orchid silk crepe dress with white accessories. She carried a shower bouquet of pink roses and freesia and wore a coronet of orange blossoms in her hair. Her sister, too, was very pretty in a delicate pink lace dress with white accessories and a corsage of mixed flowers at her waistline. The groom wore the conventional dark blue suit with a white carnation in his coat lapel. The simple, yet very impressive single ring service was performed by the Rev. Dr. Thutt by candlelight in one corner of the living room, and here the couple exchanged their wedding vows. White candles tied with orchid bows on pedestals and potted plants were on each side of the couple.

Immediately following the sacred ceremony a reception was held for the twenty-four immediate relatives and a few close friends. Orchid and white ice cream and individual white cup cakes with orchid and rose trim were served on trays. Favors were orchid nut cups made in the form of roses.

Mrs. Gilmore is a graduate of the Clarinda high school with the class of 1931 and since that time has taught in the rural schools of Page county. Mr. Gilmore is a responsible young man who attended the Clarinda high school also and was a member of the class of 1929. Since his graduation he has engaged in farming.

This worthy young couple have a host of friends and relatives who join in wishing them a successful and happily married life together.
