SALAMANCA — Louis C. Foy, 57, of 166 Broad St., died today (Friday, July 24, 1981) in St. Francis Hospital, Olean, following a lengthy illness.
Born in Salamanca, on May 20, 1924, he was a son of Glenn C. and Anna E. Vail Foy. A life-long resident of Salamanca, he was married to the former Shirley M. DeBalski, on Aug. 23, 1952, who survives.
Mr. Foy was a graduate of Salamanca High School, class of 1941, and St. Bonaventure University, class of 1951.
He was a veteran of the Army serving from 1942 to 1945 as a Corporal in the Infantry Division in Europe.
Mr. Foy was first employed as an assistant coach at Randolph School in 1952, he then was football, baseball and wrestling coach at Bolivar from 1952 to 1965. Mr. Foy went to Salamanca in 1955 as a track coach, and in 1957 was appointed athletic director for Salamanca schools, serving as JV Basketball, JV Football, Varsity Track and Wrestling Coach. Mr. Foy's track team was Cattaraugus County Champions from 1958 to 1970. They had won 10 CCIA Championships and seven Section VI Championships. He had acted as director of the summer swimming program in Salamanca High School since its start in 1967 thru 1974.
In the New York State Public High School Athletic Association he was president from 1975 to 1978, where he had also served as vice-president, treasurer and secretary. He had also served as president, secretary and treasurer for the CCIAC. In 1970 he was chairman of the Basketball Committee and Football for Section VI, and a member of the Basketball, Track and Ways and Means Committee.
In 1979 he was Section VI representative to the State Intersectional Committee and the State Safety Committee.
Mr. Foy was a member of Holy Cross Church; Holy Cross Athletic Club; past member of the Kiwanis Club; BPOE Elks Lodge 1025; American Legion Hughes Skiba Post 835; and the Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1002.
Surviving besides his widow are three sons, Jud Foy of Bolivar, Tod Foy of Indianapolis, Ind., and Glenn Foy, at home; a daughter, Miss Penny Foy of Salamanca; a granddaughter; a brother, J. Vail Foy of Moscow, Idaho; and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the O'Rourke and O'Rouke Funeral Home, 25 River St., Salamanca, Saturday and Sunday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where a prayer service will be held Monday (July27, 1981) at 0 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 9:30 a.m. in Holy Cross Church. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Salamanca.
The Rosary of Christian Hope will be recited Sunday at 8 p.m. in the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials made to the American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society, will be appreciated by the family.
