Modesto Girl Weds Portland Man

Miss Laura Elizabeth Hill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. J. Hill f Leon Avenue, was married Saturday at high noon at her home to Frank Johnson of Portland, Ore. Rev. W. P. Rankin of the First Methodist Episcopal Church performed the ceremony in the presence of some twenty friends and relatives.

A wedding breakfast and reception followed the service. Out-of-town guests included I. Montgomery of Merced, E. H. Wool and family of La Grange, and Virgil Johnson of Portland.

The couple left immediately for Portland, where the bridegroom is in business.

SERVICES: Funeral 2 p.m. Thursday at Salas Brothers Chapel. Visitation 5 to 9 p.m. Tuesday and 9 a.m. to 9 o.m. Wednesday at the chapel. Burial at Lakewood Memorial Park.

BACKGROUND: Born in Washington. Lived in Empire 55 years. Cook for 20 years at Empire Guest Home.

SURVIVORS: Seven children, James Russell Stearns of San Diego, Jessie Souza of Red Bluff, Thomas Geralio Stearns of Modesto, Louis Little and David Stearns of Empire, Benjamin Harry Stearns of Waterford and Betty Lou Johnson of Kern. Thirty grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren.
