H. James Hill, well known Modestan, who formerly conducted a small advertising agency here, died suddenly in San Francisco last night at the home of relatives.
News of Hill's death was received by the Shannon Funeral Chapel.
Mr. and Mrs. Hill were visiting at the home of Mrs. Hill's brother at 625 First Street, San Francisco, when he died.
Hill was prominently identified with the Spanish-American War Veterans here and also had other lodge affiliations.
Besides his widow he leaves a son, Ed Hill, an employe of The Modesto Bee.
The body will be retruned to Modesto for funeral services.

Funeral services for H. James Hill, 58, of Modesto, who died suddenly Thursday night in San Francisco, will be held in the Shannon Funeral Chapel Monday morning at 10 o'clock.
Rev. L. L. Loofbourow, pastor of the First Methodist Episcopal Church, and Whitmore Camp, Spanish-American War Veterans, will officiate. Interment will be in the Modesto Cemetery.
Hill leaves his widow, Mrs. Evans M. Hill; a daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Johnson, and a son, Edwin Hill, all of Modesto.

SONORA — Mrs. Evans M. Hill, for whom final rites were conducted Monday, led an active life before death claimed her at the age of 93 on Friday, three days before her 94th birthday.
Mrs. Hill was active in the Spanish - American War Veterans and the Order of the Redmen. A graduate of the University of Oklahoma in 1900, she attended her class' 60th anniversary reunion in 1960.
A native of Indiana, she moved to Modesto in 1920. She had been a resident of Yankee Hill in the Sonora area, living at the Hatler Lumber Co. residence for 10 years.
Mrs. Hill was preceded in death in 1936 by her husband, James Hill. She leaves a son, Edwin H. Hill of Menlo Park; daughter, Elizabeth Stearns of Empire and a brother, Ira Daniel Montgomery of Modesto.
