Lois Houston Tice was born in Los Angeles, California to Eric and Mildred Houston. She had one sibling, Al.
She graduated high school, attended the American Institute of Banking in Los Angeles and started her "moneyed career." Her first job started the day after high school graduation at the Federal Reserve Bank in Los Angeles. She started as a currency sorter eventually promoting to secretary to the Vice President.
Lois married Frank Tice in 1945, in St. Marks Methodist Church in Los Angeles, a 60-year marriage ending in Franks passing in 2005. They lived in Manhattan Beach, Calif., raising two sons and a daughter. They were constantly transferred to various states by Rockwell, the company her husband worked for, but always lucky enough to return to the beach she loved in California.
Lois started working in 1959 for Bank of America as a teller. In 1961 her husband was transferred by Rockwell to Lancaster, California and Edwards Air Force Base and Lois was able to transfer with the Bank of America as well. Once there, she worked her way up to loan and escrow officer, making VA, FHA, Cal Vet and private real estate loans. She retired from Bank of America in 1989 and went to work part time for a small escrow company until 1991. During these years she also attended Antelope Valley College, taking courses that interested her.
Finally retiring she started traveling. Over the years she lived or visited 45 states, including her favorites, Hawaii three times and Alaska. Lois travelled to Canada, Mexico and Europe.
In 1987 she began volunteering at the Lancaster United Methodist Church office. Using her professional expertise (and she joked "not having sticky fingers") was an active member of the counting team. She served as treasurer for eight years for United Methodist Women and was a member of Miriam Circle. She was also President of her Bank of America retiree group for five years.
In addition to travel, her hobbies included crossword puzzles, Scrabble, hand writing analysis, sewing, converting cross stitch patterns into beadwork. An avid reader she enjoyed biographies, history, murder mysteries and poetry. She loved to cook and was well known for her homemade pies, the last one made at the age of 92. She enjoyed watching baseball, football and horseracing.
She is survived by sons Richard (Linda) of Susanville, Ronald of Lancaster; daughter, Janet (Steve) of Morro Bay and special "other daughter" Joanne Goodman (Charles) of Amelia, Va. Brothers-in-law Joe Tice of Westminster, Calif., Jack Tice of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, many nieces, nephews and friends of all ages. Her intelligence, Irish wit and sense of humor will be missed by many.
