Everett C. Hurd, 78, of Napa, died Thursday at Queen of the Valley Hospital.
Born and raised in Missouri, Mr. Hurd entered the U.S. Army during World War I. After his discharge from the service, he moved to California where he was married to Alta Huston in 1923. For 25 years he was involved in the grain and milling business in Southern California and later owned and operated a motel in Dunsmuir for five years. After his retirement he moved to San Luis Obispo until coming to Napa one year ago.
Mr. Hurd's survivors include his wife, Alta of Napa; and two sisters, Ethel Cunningham of Concord and Grace Strassburg of Ojai.
A 50-year member of the Republic Lodge No. 570 A.F and A.M. of Republic, Mo., Mr. Hurd also belonged to the Estero Bay Chapter N. 587 O.E.S. of Morro Bay, Gibralter Barracks No. 1291 of World War I Veterans in Morro Bay and Memory Post No. 1844 V.F.W. in Santa Rosa.
Graveside funeral services will be held Monday at 11 a.m. at the Los Osos Valley Memorial Park Cemetery under the auspices of the Estero Lodge No. 719 A.F. and A.M. of Morro Bay. Friends may call at the Chapel of Richard Pierce Funeral Service until noon Sunday. It has been suggested that memorial contributions be made to the Napa County Branch of the American Cancer Society.
