Marriage Announcements and News

Sedalia Democrat, August 12, 194211155

Miss Jean McClure, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Leonard McClure of Hughesville, and Mr. William Young Irvine of Marshall, were married at the home of the bride's parents at 8:30 o'clock Saturday night.

The double ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. Alonzo Patison in the presence of the immediate families. White pillars decorated with smilax and forming standards for eight branch candelabra holding white tapers formed an improvised altar in the living room. The bridal party stood on a white rug facing a large oval mirror.

The bride wore a blue crepe dress with white accessories and her corsage was of gardenias. She wore an heirloom lavalier and carried a handmade handkerchief also carried by her grandmother, Mrs. J. L. Griffith and her mother at their weddings. The bridegroom, who is in the army, stationed at Fort Leonard Wood, was in uniform.

The bridesmaid, Miss Betty Paige McClure, wore a pink shadow crepe, blue accessories and a corsage of talisman roses. The best man was Mr. George Irvine, a brother of the groom.

Mrs. Das McClure played the bridal chorus from Wagner's "Lohengrin."

White tapers illuminated the dining room, with six candles flanking a crystal bowl containing garden flowers that centered the buffet. Crystal holders held the candles on the lace-covered table. The centerpiece was a four-tier wedding cake around which small vases of flowers were arranged.

The bride was born and reared near Hughesville, and attended junior college at Parsons, Kas., after graduating from Smith-Cotton high school. Mr. Irvine, the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Irvine, of Marshall, is a graduate of the high school and Missouri Valley college there.
